Today's post is brought to you by the SSOM parents. Yep, my Mom and Dad! You know you have a good Dad when he calls you before he tosses his old ice skates to see if you want them! and Mom hit up an antique store and brought me home a new Coca-Cola tray and vintage wool plaid scarf a few weeks back. So timely too!
Of course I had to hop on over to my dishes and set a table with these new treasures.
I never claimed to be normal, y'all.
These ice skates remind me of my first memory of snow and ice skating on the frozen pond at my Grandparents old farm.
You see, I was born in South Florida.
Ice was something that came in cubes.
Snow was something I had heard of, and imagined it was a lot like sand.
Until one winter when they trekked us up to Ohio.
Back to where my parents grew up... to see snow!
Using this memory, I set a table filled with items perfect for a snowy day!
On this trip, I remember sifting through my grandparents baskets of mittens and scarves to see what would fit my sister and I. Since we were southerners, we didn't have much warm clothes but thankfully my grandparents had plenty to go around. We got so bundled up I am surprised we could even walk.
My sister Wendy and Hanzi the goat on the farm
Dad and his sisters circa sometime early '60's?
This picture makes me laugh out loud.
We sledded, we skated.
Then we stripped all of those layers off and snuggled warm in their home.
This plate captures this memory so vividly.
The red barn. The sled. The snow. The long driveway. Even the dog!
My grandparents moved from the farm and have since passed.
What I would do to have the chance to visit the farm, see them, and drink some hot chocolate in their warm home again.
I'm sure many of you reading either grew up in the cold snow or can remember your first time seeing snow! Now that we are in Atlanta, we get it here and there...
