Hi friends! How was your weekend? If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen that we’ve had a great first weekend at the beach complete with a sunrise, rocket launch and a turtle hatchling release. Y’all. COOL STUFF!
But the best part was hosting Sweet P’s pirate themed 4th Birthday Low Country Shrimp Boil.
Is there anything more fun, casual, and yummy than a good ol’ fashion shrimp boil? This has become our favorite meal to serve when we have company or are hosting a party.
It really is more than a meal. It’s an event. And a super fun and social way to enjoy a summer evening with family and friends.
I cut some kraft paper place mats and layered them on top of the gingham tablecloth. This is great for discarding corn cobs or shrimp shells. If you don’t have kraft paper, you can always use newspaper.
The Kid Zone Chalkboard Whale doubled as a menu sign. For a centerpiece, I just gathered my collection of lanterns and candles.
OK, next step:
Once you have figured out your table, you will need to get your food cooking. Each time we have hosted a shrimp boil, we follow this recipe. It’s really easy and SOOOO tasty. You may think you need special tools or pots but really all you need is a big spaghetti pot and a strainer. That’s IT! We’ve used our turkey fryer to really go all out but it can really be done easily in the kitchen. Of course, if you are feeding an army of people, you may need 4 pots. #justsayin
Before your guests arrive, get the ingredients prepped. Quarter the potatoes, divide the corn cobs, slice the sausage. This is more time consuming than you think so definitely do it before your guests arrive.
Note- if you cut your potatoes, just stick them in water until you are ready to use them so they won’t turn brown.
That’s it! Really! The clean up is pretty easy if you do your prep before because the only dishes you will have are the pots you used for cooking. To keep it REALLY simple, skip the plates and just spread the food right down the center of the table on the kraft or newspaper. #mindblown
