We still have one more fun family trip planned before school starts so I’m taking this week at home to get my life in order. In fact, I’ve declared it the GOAT WEEK around here- Getting Our Act Together. Ha, you know I love a theme. First up- the closets! Before we head back to school I am purging, prepping, sorting and organizing. Once it’s all done, I will know what I actually need for back to school shopping. However, I don’t have a ton of time to spend on closets (nor am I really in the mood to purge) so I am using my little closet edit trick…
The 20 Minutes/20 Item Closet Edit Trick. Here is how it works.
I just tell myself I am going to spend 20 minutes in each closet (I even set the phone timer), and while I am in there I have to find 20 things to purge and edit out of the closet.
It’s funny how as an adult I have to turn things into “games” to keep me motivated. This is one of them. I was feeling completely overwhelmed thinking about tackling the boys closets. And don’t even get me started on my own closet! After traveling all summer it was full of random piles and a general mess.
Here is the thing, I usually ALWAYS end up getting into it and usually find far more than 20 items once I get going. But at a minimum between the three closets- I will have found 60 things to get out of the way.
And that sure does make me feel lighter heading into the school year!
Do you play any “tricks” to help get motivated?
xoxo-
Heather
