We bought a new house!
WE BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE!
It feels so great to FINALLY share it here. I know lately I have been a bit MIA and mentioned that we had some stuff cooking behind the scenes. I have absolutely hated keeping this a secret from you but honestly the past two months have been such a blur, that I didn’t even know where to start. I also believe in that whole “don’t count your chickens before they hatch” approach so I wanted to wait until it was official. It has definitely been hard to write a “home and life blog” when I couldn’t share this news about our “home and life”. 🙂
Things won’t be changing much, we will be staying in Atlanta and actually just moving right up the road. Sweet P will still be starting kindergarten at the same school next year and even my grocery store stays the same.
Why are we moving then?
We have been in our home for just over seven years and for the past three years since Sweet B came along (baby boy number two) we have been pondering whether we should move or stay put. Every time we looked at houses we would always decide that we were happy in our house and there was no need to rock the boat. We had great neighbors and our Rancher had always been great to us!
But at the beginning of the year, we both got the feeling it was time for something new and we made our wish list. We wanted more privacy for our guests since we were having them more often than we originally thought we would. We wanted a more flat backyard for the boys to play. The Big Sweet really needed a true home office to work from. With the boys getting bigger, we just wanted a little more space. (where oh where do all of the toys come from?!) So we both agreed that if our “Unicorn” house came along, we would pull the trigger and make the move. What is a Unicorn house? Well, one that checks ALOT of very high maintenance boxes for us, and one I was convinced really didn’t exist. Or at least it wouldn’t be coming along any time soon…
In early April as we were heading down to Jekyll Island, we got a new listing alert for a home about one mile from our current home. As we were cruising south, we looked at each other knowing that this house could be the one! But we also knew that the market is hot in Atlanta right now and “Unicorn” houses go fast with multiple offers. Did we need to turn around? What if our unicorn got away?!?!
So we called our agent and she assured us we should stay the course on our vacation. The next day while we were poolside in Jekyll Island our agent Facetimed us and we did a virtual tour of the Unicorn. We were sold and had an offer in before sunset that day! It was several days of all consuming drama but after all of that, we are happy new home owners! And we are officially closing this afternoon so I feel like I can FINALLY spill the beans.
Without further ado… Here she is!
As for the new house, she doesn’t need much work and she has been well loved. Of course, that doesn’t mean I don’t have 1,000,000 ideas spinning on how I plan to make it mine! I will definitely be sharing a “before” tour soon so you can get your wheels spinning too. It’s always fun to see a house become a home, isn’t it?
Our current home is truly a gem. I mean, it inspired me to start this little blog, right? We have lived here 7 years and this is the home we started our family in. We brought both of our sweet babies home from the hospital to this house. This is the home where they learned to walk. This is the home I was up in the wee hours of the night in those early days of learning about this whole Mom gig. It truly is bittersweet to leave our first home. This is where we started our family but I know that “home” is wherever I am with them…so I know the sweet memories will continue at our next address.
I will be back next week with a proper Farewell Tour to our sweet Rancher.
Until then, Happy Memorial Day Weekend loves!
xoxo-
Heather

Oh my gosh!! It’s beautiful! I can’t wait to see everything about it! (And I’m obsessed with watching the market here. That’s how we found our current home. And if another perfect house came along, I’d move, too!) Congrats!!
Thanks Laura! I guess it comes as no surprise that if we love our homes, we love looking at other homes too!
Heather, so excited for you and your sweet family! So happy you are staying put in the Atlanta area! Don’t let all these ideas keep you up at night!
Congrats…Its beautiful!
The new house has fabulous curb appeal. I hope as new owners you will keep up the beautiful yard. Check out yesterday’s post at Uptown Acorn and you’ll see why.
Oh, what a beauty! So excited for you all! The exterior and layout remind me a little bit of Emily’s Eleven Gables home! 🙂
Well, oh my goodness, I hadn’t made that connection but yes I see it now! Must be why I immediately fell in love with it- I have always just loved her home! Now, if I could just figure out a way to add a duck pond?!?!?! 🙂
Oh my goodness the new home is beautiful! Good luck with the move. I always find them exciting and a fun adventure. Can’t wait to see the before tour!
Glad to find your blog and congrats!
