Easy Weathered Succulent Pots

in create, Dollar Store Crafts on 04/27/17

Hello hello! How is it already Thursday AND the last Thursday of April? Welp. I have so much that I have been working on that I can’t wait to share (soon!) that has been keeping me busy. And I can’t wait until the dust settles and I have more time to chat with you here!

Today I am back with another My Dollar Store DIY project. This is a brainchild of my bloggy bestie Rachael from This is our Bliss where once a month a group shares projects using items we found at our local Dollar Store. Now, for those of you that know me personally you know my boys think they are going to Disney World when I take them to the Dollar Tree for them to each pick out a toy. (yes, I realize I have set their standards very very low) And normally when we are there, I peruse the craft aisle to see what I can use for a fun and inexpensive project for myself.

With spring in the air, I wanted to bring a few pieces of greenery to my kitchen so when I stumbled upon these succulents I thought they could work. (hello, black thumb) Further perusing also caused me to find these mini terra-cotta pots and this easy weathered succulent pots project was born.

The tiny pots were a little more orange than the look I was going for so I just grabbed some gray paint I had on hand to weather them. In order to get the weathered look- I used a wet paper towel and dabbed it in the gray paint and wiped it on the pot.

After around 20 seconds I used a dry paper towel to wipe most of it off. I did this a couple times on each pot to get the gray weathered look. I know this is very technical instructions, but believe me when I say you can’t mess this up!

I give myself an A+ for remembering to wear a glove while I was painting to save my fun spring pink manicure. And since it was spared from getting ruined, I figured I would capture this rare moment of having painted nails. I had the rocks on hand from a sensory sand bin I made for the boys last summer but I think any little pebbles you can get your hands on would work.

And that’s it! Tiny little succulents for your kitchen windowsill!

Feeling inspired? Here are several more spring projects using dollar store materials you can try!

Fabulous job with these, they definitely don’t look like they are from the Dollar Store. I love that finish you created.
