Greetings from Deer Valley, Utah! It’s our spring break and we decided to hit the slopes for the first time as a family. This place did not disappoint! Today will be our third day of skiing and everyone is having a great time! Wow- I forgot how much fun skiing is and it has been such a joy to see the boys get their first taste of it. I will share a full recap of the trip soon here on the blog with some tips in case you are planning your own family ski trip. But for now, it’s coffee talk time from our porch at our condo. (and some ibuprofen – wow I’m sore!) So grab your coffee and meet me on the porch for our weekly FRONT PORCH COFFEE TALK.
SKI FAM JAM
As I mentioned, we are currently SKIING! So far, the boys are doing great in ski school and after 1.5 days with a ski instructor I think it is coming back to me. Definitely not like riding a bike, ha! We have been dreaming of this trip since before our boys were born- we knew we wanted to teach them to ski young! My mama heart is so happy and proud of them for trying so hard to learn. I am already dreaming of our next ski trip and so incredibly grateful for these memories.
THE EASIEST CLOTHES CONSIGNMENT EVER
Have you ever heard of Thred Up? It’s a great option for earning some money for your closet clean out. All you do is order a clean out bag and they ship this large bag to you- for free. Then as you purge- you just add in anything that you would like to try to sell. Once it’s full (less than 30 pounds) just seal it and ship it back- for free! So easy! I have had some great luck and earned over $100 on a couple clean out bags- with such little effort. Order your own clean out bag for free HERE! It really does make cleaning out your closet so much easier knowing you might earn a couple bucks from the items you are purging.
GOOD BOOKS FOR BEGINNING CHAPTER BOOKS
I cannot express what a joy it has been to see Sweet P (age 8) start to read for pleasure! He absolutely LOVED the Diary of Wimpy Kid series and plowed through the entire 13 books in just a few weeks. I asked on my Instagram stories for some more recommendations and everyone said if he liked Wimpy Kid he would also like Dog Man and Captain Underpants. I will never understand the mind of an 8 year old boy but if it these are the books that will keep him reading- I am in!
Any other recommendations?
TRUTH
It’s funny because it’s true.
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
I always love the rare opportunity when I get to choose my own movie to watch! So I definitely took the opportunity on the flight out to watch a movie that I had been wanting to watch and I chose A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. And then I may have proceeded to ugly cry right there in my aisle seat for the next 1.5 hours. Have you seen it? It was slow at times, but definitely enjoyed it overall. I loved the reminder of the innocence of children and tough topics such as forgiveness and compassion. And seriously who doesn’t love Tom Hanks?

Both of my son’s (21 and 25), loved reading Captain Underpants when they were younger. Boys! I wanted to suggest two different series which are too old for him right now, but he might like in another year or so. The 39 Clues. This has to be the BEST chapter/series books ever written for young kids around 9 and older. I’m not sure how many books are in the series, but each one would grab my sons and suck them in, to the point they couldn’t wait for the next book to be issued! The other chapter/series is, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Again, this is probably a bit older for him, but my oldest son could hardly keep his hands off of those books. If I remember correctly, these books were all purchased through Schollastics. I hope your school participates with this program. It’s wonderful.

Looks like you had a wonderful time in Utah! I have never tried Thred-Up but have thought about it. Maybe I will give it a go! So excited for Lil P that he is enjoying reading. I certainly enjoy a good book myself!
