Well, I was hoping to continue the tour of Peach Valley this week, but the reality is I have pretty much run out of rooms to share that are in any condition for the interwebs. Whoops! 🙂 Seeing that we just moved in to the new house less than three months ago, it was definitely bound to happen but I guess I was hoping there were more ready to share. #wishfulthinking
Sooooo… in order to remedy that- I have a plan!
While September is shaping up to be a hectic month (oh who am I kidding it is always hectic!), it does feel a little like the calm before the holiday storm so I figured I would try to tackle the family den. With friends and family coming this space will get lots of use in the coming months so it will feel great to have it done.
Currently, it is lack luster to say the least but it does have some pretty great bones to start with! I love the wall color, the trim, the light fixture and the bamboo shades. Fortunately we scored a sectional for $100 when we moved in so a sofa won’t eat into the budget.
Oh yeah. Did I mention there is a budget for this room?
$100.
How am I going to do this? Well, I have decided to join the $100 ROOM CHALLENGE. I am going to give the room some life for $100. Yes. You read that right. A HUNDRED BUCKS!
Erin from Lemons, Lavender and Laundry created the $100 Room Challenge two years ago when she challenged herself to make over a room in her home for $100 and do it in 4 weeks. She has now completed 12 rooms using this method. Earlier this year, Erin decided to invite other bloggers to participate in her “challenge” by transforming a space in their homes over 4 weeks with the $100 budget! I know everyone can relate to having small budgets so I think this is truly inspirational!
OK, now I realize $100 is not much AT ALL. I mean it’s practically a date night by the time you factor in babysitters and a pitcher of margaritas. (oh and let’s not forget the guac and queso) So- you may be asking yourself how exactly is she going to pull this off?
The answer is: a lot of elbow grease, a vision and a “good enough” attitude. Oh and some luck! Lots of luck! 🙂 Honestly, the plan is to scour the house for what still may be packed up in boxes, repurpose some things that I already have, hit the thrift stores and cross my fingers that I find some good and inexpensive pieces of furniture I can work with.
I’m going for a southern rustic vibe with lots of coziness and comfort. And yes I just made that southern rustic term up. But hopefully you get the feel of what I am going for. You definitely cannot hold me to this since I will be hunting down things over the next 30 days and will need to go with the flow.
I am jumping into this challenge feet first without a true plan- it will all be happening in real time over the next four weeks and I will check in here once a week with updates. So come along for the ride and let’s see how far we can stretch a Benjamin.
Here is the list I hope to tackle in this room:
- fill and style the built in bookshelves
- add an accent chair and table to side wall
- add a leather ottoman and fun throw pillows to break up sea of gray sectional
- add art on walls
- add side tables and lamps
- accessorize
Wow, that is actually alot to fit into $100 budget. This may take some more engineering than I thought. OK, wish me luck! And send me your spare change, LOL. I’m going to need it.

Heather says
Thanks! I love it too but I’ve never had to figure out art around trim like that so this will be fun to figure out!

I’m excited to see it come together!

I see the Braves Tomahawks are still on shelf! Haha. I put them there the day you moved in. I’m sure you will fill those shelves with many interesting objects! I bet you already have stuff stashed you can help fill them! Have fun and keep your phone handy in case I see something I think you MUST have!😘
Heather says
Bahahaha… yes the red foam Tomahawks sat there for a good 2.5 months. We will be sad to see them go 🙂 Thanks for being on the hunt for me- this is going to take some scores!
Lindsay says
You are definitely starting with a gorgeous space – looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Heather says
Thanks! Yes, the good “bones” help but man $100 isn’t much 🙂

I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Seems like a lot of us have recently moved. I’ll be honest my family room needs a lot of work too, but that is for another day!
Heather says
Ha, yes I had so many rooms to choose from with the recent move. I am excited to follow along on everyone’s progress! Thanks!
