How to Make Free Christmas Planters Tutorial

in Christmas, holidays on 12/05/14

Today I am here with a quick project you can tackle this weekend. Do you have some planters on your porch with dead mums? (No? … Just me?!?!)

Yeah… our planters were filled with sad dead mums so I set out to Christmas-i-fy them. And did it without spending a dime in just 6 super easy steps!

Step 1:
Remove dead mums. Or whatever is half dead from your planters. I won’t judge if it’s still flowers from the summer.

Step 2:
Then, stop in your local Home Depot. Park close to where they are selling the Christmas trees and grab a cart. Go to the bin where the clippings are and help yourself. If you get weird looks, just tell them I sent you. Seriously though- when I went and asked for clippings- they were super friendly and actually helped me pick out the best clippings to load up my cart! Gotta love the Depot!

Step 3:
Go home and wander your yard for holly bushes, magnolia leaves, pine cones… whatever. Or wander your neighbors yard. It’s ok, they are out Christmas shopping and won’t care if you snag a clipping or 2. If you are feeling really crafty grab some sticks and spray paint them white or red.

OK- now it’s the fun part! Filling. Spilling. And Thrilling!

Step 4:
Fill, fill, fill: Grab the Christmas tree clippings and fill the planters.

Step 5:
And spilling….Grab whatever other clippings you found and spill, spill, spill.

Step 6:
And thrilling….Yes, this is the exciting part, hold onto your Santa hats folks. Grab some old ornaments and add some color to the planters!

Ta-da! Free planters!

There is no wrong way to do this. When they are “filled, spilled, and thrilled” they are done!

Happy weekend!

UPDATE: HERE IS ANOTHER VERSION- READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE.

xoxo-
