DIY Do Not Disturb Hat

in create, Girls Weekend, Lifestyle, Simple Gifting, style on 02/29/16

Hi friends! I hope you are feeling a little bit of this spring weather in your world. I sure hope it is here to stay! Today I am sharing a fun Do Not Disturb Beach Hat tutorial. As a mom, you are “on-duty” 24/7,  so when you can get away, it is truly a reason to celebrate. It’s no secret the hubby and I like our “off-duty” time. We try to have at least a couple date nights a month and love weekend getaways without the kiddos. It’s truly how we recharge the batteries!  Last year, when we were celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary in St Thomas, I picked up this fun Off Duty sweater from Lilly. It has become a tradition to wear it whenever we are “off duty” now.

I have also become quite a hat wearer when we go to the beach – gone are the days of burning my skin. When I saw this Eugenia Kim  fun beach hat that said “Do Not Disturb”, I instantly thought it would make a fun DIY Do Not Disturb Beach Hat knock-off.

I love the “do not disturb” version but since “off-duty” has become my code word I thought it would be fun to use that instead! Here is what I came up with!

Supplies Needed:

To make this Do Not Disturb Beach Hat, I gathered my supplies.

  • floppy hat– I had one on hand but found some good options at the bottom of the post.
  • sequin trim– I actually had a scarf on hand that I cut some sequin strips from. Can’t even tell they are gone and totally free to me!
  • glue gun
  • piece of chalk or pencil

Off Duty Hat Supplies

To start, I grabbed some blue chalk and sketched out the words off-duty on the hat as my guide.

Then I just used my hot glue gun to glue down the sequin trim right over the chalk. It really was that easy.

Cute Sayings:

I think this would be really cute with lot of different saying:

  • Do Not Disturb
  • Wish You Were Here
  • Out of Office
  • It would also be really fun for a girls weekend with everyone’s initial
  • Or a bachelorette getaway- give the bride-to-be one with her future Mrs. name? She could take it on her honeymoon too! Awwwww.

I know I will be bringing this hat with us on our getaways this summer. And probably when we go to the beach with the kids too. Ha, do you think they will get the hint if I pull this over my face? #momisoffduty #gofindyourdad

Brilliant idea. Maybe we should make some shirts too. And pajamas. And baseball hat. #OFFDUTY
