I hope you’ve enjoyed “road tripping” this week as I recapped our summer travels. If you are just catching up, I shared a week-long series recapping our time out west. So far I have shared some highlights from Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson, Wyoming area and Yellowstone National Park in Montana. Today we have arrived at our final destination- Sun Valley, Idaho.
Our Idaho time was a whirlwind- with only three nights and two full days. We drove from Wilson, Wyoming and it was a 4.5 hour drive. The drive was easy once we got over the pass in Idaho – but we were feeling pretty car sick! After the mountain, the scenery was pretty farmland. We passed lots of ranches and a few small towns. We stopped in at Craters of the Moon (free with our National Park Pass) but decided not to do the 30 minute drive to see it all.
WHERE WE STAYED
We stayed at Sun Valley Lodge. The room was great for our family of four with two queen beds and a separate room with pull out sofa. The resort had a bowling alley and pool that we used and lots of shopping. There was even an ice skating rink!
WHAT WE DID
- My husband was actually invited as part of a work retreat so while he was attending the meetings – the other wives and I biked into downtown Ketchum to shop. It was super cute! It’s maybe a mile or two from resort. There was a fun thrift store that I went into and came out with this fly fishing painting as a souvenir.
- The ladies also did a 4 mile hike one morning- walking distance from hotel. Was good but there were definitely some much better hikes if you drove a little further out.
- One afternoon my husband and I went fly fishing. We fished on the Big Wood River- also close to resort- used the Lost River Outfitters.
- The boys did both days in a base camp and they did white water rafting and a lake outing. This was sponsored by the conference we were with and since they knew some other kids- they had a good time.
- Horse back riding- stables are right by resort – just did an hour trail ride. Guys played golf!
As I mentioned, it felt like we only scratched the surface while in Sun Valley. I really loved exploring here and would have loved an entire week to really soak it all in. Next time!
XO-
Heather
