Happy Friday friends! Hasn’t this extra week after Thanksgiving this year been such a gift? I love that we didn’t go right from Thanksgiving to December. Now, I just need my family to get healthy! It’s been a rough couple weeks with fevers with the boys which is never fun! And then this mama went down with a fever this week, which made me especially feeling grateful that it isn’t December yet. The only perk of having sick kids home is that it forced me to finish up the Christmas decor!
As we move through the Peach Valley Christmas Tour, today we are making a stop in the kids lounge. I am also joining with a big group of bloggers sharing their kids spaces today, so prepare to be inspired! If you are coming over from Heathered Nest– welcome!
The kids lounge is a little nook in the upstairs hallway between the boys bedrooms. It’s usually filled with whatever toys they dragged from the playroom that they are into that week, and generally it has books all over the place since we keep our books on a shelf here.
I thought it would be fun to give them a little of their own Christmas, using what I could find in the Christmas tubs! I mentioned yesterday that we were gifted a big collection of Nutcrackers, so a bunch found their way to top of the piano. Then I just strung some light on them, which makes a sweet little hall nightlight for the boys.
This is the spot that we read at every night before bed so it only makes sense to put all of our Christmas books up here. I just found an extra bin and put them next to the tree.
Oh and the tree was our “first” tree when we got married so it has been around for 14 years! This is what we used in our apartment for the first few years and it is the perfect little tree for the boys.
This is also the perfect spot for their Little People Nativity set, which has been such a hit the past couple years. While Sweet P might be getting a little too old for it, Sweet B has literally been sleeping with these little characters in his bed this week. If you are looking for a Christmas gift idea for a toddler, I would definitely recommend this nativity set. And who am I kidding, I will probably pull this out until they leave for college. #insertmamatears
Another tradition I love is to use this Advent Calendar. This awesome burlap calendar from my friend and owner of Heirloomed. It looks like she no longer carries the burlap one, but this vintage red stripe one is just as sweet! It is definitely proving helpful to have a countdown since Sweet B is already asking when Christmas is going to be here!?! I have the countdown ready to start this weekend, and I printed off this cute printable of daily bible verses to help us countdown.
I just put each little bible verse in the pocket and used some clothes pins and nutcrackers to make it a little more fun.
As luck would have it, we also have 24 Christmas books in that bin! What a fun coincidence! So we will be reading of of those each night in December.
And yes, this is our childhood piano that my parents gave to us on the day we moved in to the new house!
I dusted off some old Christmas piano music and had some fun playing this week while we were home sick. It’s always fun to play, but I definitely could use some practice. 🙂
I hope you are inspired to bring a little extra magic to your children’s spaces! I just love the twinkle lights this time of year. Heather I just love how you have your piano in your playroom. It’s feels totally like Christmas to have all those nutcrackers on top of your piano too. Meanwhile, my daughter loves little people and she would play with your nativity scene instantly. lol.

My children are older now, the only little people I have saved is the nativity set. I could not part with it. I am saving it now in the hope that some day I will have grandchildren who with play with it. Enjoyed your tour and following your blog.

This room is filled with the sweetest Christmas touches! Too much cuteness. And I would LOVE to hear you play the piano sometime!! I have always wished I knew how. xo

My sweets love their little people nativity. L took responsibility for putting it out this year. I keep hearing him say he needs to go play with his Jesus toy. And we’ve read the first Christmas book that you sent with it already too. Thankfully we’ve moved past the stage where the manger had to be on top of the stable and the Angel is safely there now. Thanks again for the amazing gift that gives every year.
