Hello friends! It’s time for another stop on the Summer Simplicity Series and today it’s all about outdoor spaces.
It’s hard to believe it but it has officially been two years since we moved into our “new” house! Time really does fly when you are having fun. In just two short years we have gone from the little guy sleeping in a crib to taking the training wheels off his bike this past weekend. And a rising kindergartner to an upcoming second grader missing all his teeth and reading books. But I digress….(I blame summer mom brain here people, everything is excused, mmmkay?!) Today I am sharing our back porch in it’s summer glory.
BLUE OUTDOOR RUG | NANTUCKET TALL PLANTER | STRIPED PILLOWS | TOPIARIES
Well, maybe not it’s full glory…. You see, in the two years we have lived here, we have yet to make any real new purchases for this space. We are still using a hodgepodge of furniture that we have either had since we first got married, bought second hand or that was given to us.
But even though everything is a mix of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, I still enjoy tweaking it for the seasons and holidays and making it a comfortable place for my family to relax and spend time together.
So with that, let’s take a look around at the old, new, borrowed and blue! 🙂
SOMETHING OLD
First up, something “old”. This little round table and chairs set was given to us by our good friends when they upgraded their outdoor furniture last summer. This has been in their family for over 50 years and has lived in Nebraska, North Carolina and now Georgia.
It’s the perfect size for our family of four and I like how I am able to have a sitting area as well as the table all fit under the roof of the pavilion.
SOMETHING NEW
I found a pair of tall Nantucket style black planters and added some ferns to the space. I love the addition of some live plants here on the porch!
Ferns are always my go-to since they are so easy to take care of, and can handle the summer heat.
SOMETHING BORROWED
This blue planter is my Mom’s on loan… indefinitely! 🙂 It’s perfect for holding our blue hydrangea clippings this summer on the coffee table.
Actually, now that I think about it, I am pretty sure this larger planter on the table was also “borrowed” from mom. I guess we both have a thing for blue and white. Thanks Mom.
SOMETHING BLUE
Speaking of blue, let’s take a look the outdoor rug in this room. This rug is technically something old, something new, and something blue!
Let me explain.
It was old to someone else and new to me- because I found it on the curb. Say what?! It was really dirty and I guess whoever owned it, really just didn’t feel like dealing with it. But I grabbed a bottle of carpet cleaner from the store, took a hose to it- and it came out sparkling new! Y’all- it is still available at Target for $100. SCORE!
Hope you enjoyed my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue back porch tour today. Be sure to stick around below for lots more outdoor space inspiration.
In a Summer State of Mind,
xoxo-
