Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

Top Ten Summer & No Spend-tember

in Lifestyle on 09/02/14

Well, to say we were busy this summer is an understatement! Nothing like adding a whole human to your family to keep things interesting! I really appreciate all of my awesome blogging buddies that kept you company as part of the “At Home With” series and for all of your support and sweet comments as we adjusted to being a family of four.

For anyone new around SSOM, here is a recap of the top 10 posts from the summer. Oh! And I am officially declaring September “No Spend-Tember“… Intrigued? Read on!

Of course, I will start with little man Brooks! He was the star of my summer for sure! What an amazing couple of months it has been since he arrived.
I blamed an innocent Ikea trip for a complete revamp of the living room.
The Jacqueline Kennedy Style Soiree had me wishing I could don vintage scarves. And shift dresses.

I welcomed some new neighbors with my go-to housewarming gift.
Got some fun curtains up using galvanized pipes in the big boy room.
I joined a Fourth of July challenge to create something patriotic without using red white and blue. So I made a Neutral Nautical Pallet Flag.
Because who doesn’t love pallets?
And oysters?!?
We saw spots in the nursery with this quick, cheap and easy polka dot wall.
An old mirror got a Greek Key makeover for the Princess Diana Style Soiree.
The courtyard got some sprucing up.
And last but not least, I shared how we gained a bedroom. No moving boxes involved!

Phew! I am actually surprised at how much we accomplished this summer.

Now, let’s take a look ahead to September. Do you have certain times of the year where you just feel like you are spending too much? I know it usually hits me around the holidays, but lately I feel like I am oozing cash.

So, I am declaring it “No Spend-tember” around the household.
Yep, you heard me correct. Unless it is a necessity, I will not be buying it.

I am stating it here so you can help keep me accountable. This means no extra stops in Target, no quick trips by the Goodwill, and definitely no Costco runs. Because clearly I have no self control in these places.

Hmmm… what will I be doing instead of wandering the aisles of Target? We are going to have fun using what we have around the house to kick-start some fall decorating, get our preppy on (big news coming Thursday!), and finish a couple projects that have fallen by the wayside.

You aren’t going to want to miss a thing!

Your baby is just so precious. I have enjoyed your blog this summer. I would like to know where you buy the Meyer's soap I can't find it in this little town, but I can go elsewhere if I know a specific store that carries it or do you purchase it on line. I have heard so many good things about it and I really want to give it a try.

Thanks Patty! So glad you have been enjoying SSOM this summer! It's been great having you here! I find Mrs. Meyers in my local Target and it can also be purchased through Amazon. Basil is my favorite scent with Lemon Verbena coming in a close second.
I have a link to Mrs. Meyers through Amazon in my right sidebar- the blue box if you want to click through it should take you right to it! Let me know if you have any other questions.
