Greetings from the beach! Spring break has been a blast and we are really enjoying a few days of just being away as a family. Today kicks off a fun new “ONE ROOM CHALLENGE” and this time it’s all about the dining room. If you aren’t familiar with the ORC, it is a six week event made up of two parts- a group of designers that share their designs every Wednesday and then guest participants who tackle a room on their own and share their updates each Thursday. The beauty for me with these challenges is that it helps me focus on “one room”… and the “challenge” is to get it DONE in six weeks.
I honestly can’t believe I am going for this considering I JUST finished the guest bathroom and we are on spring break and I really didn’t know if I was up for another project to jump right back into when I get home. But honestly, these challenges are so great for me to help me stay on track with rooms so I figured why not?!
Back in November, I shared our dining room mood board with big hopes to have it ready for the holidays. Well, the holidays came and went and still it sits waiting to be given some love! It has been fun getting settled into our new home and I can’t believe in a few short months it will be a full year since we moved in. I think it’s officially time to tackle this space and what better reason than a One Room Challenge!
In our previous home, we gave up our formal dining space along the way to make our home function better for our growing family. That means we didn’t bring any formal dining furniture along with us and we are starting from scratch. As a recap, here is what the room currently looked like when we moved in.
As you can see, the room is a blank slate as far as furniture. We did however inherit a few things in the space to work around- a chandelier, window treatments, dark gray built-in sideboards and a fun wallpapered ceiling.
It’s wonderful to have some of those big ticket items already in place but it was definitely making it harder for me to come up with a plan! So taking into consideration the existing wallpaper and paint colors, here is my vision for the room:
So many things to get sorted out so let’s go ahead and make the list and I will be back each week for the next 4 weeks with updates… then the final reveal week 6!
- Paint the walls
- Style the Built Ins
- Accessories for console/centerpiece for table
Thank you so much for joining me and I am excited to see where this all lands in six short weeks! Wish me luck…
