Wow! What I completely expected to be another usual underwhelming snow dusting actually turned Atlanta into a magical winter wonderland this weekend. I was not planning to post, but honestly I went bananas taking pictures of the house with snow because who knows when this will happen again!? And when does it EVER snow like this in the south in December? So when we get snow like this in the south it is worth sharing!
The weather started Friday morning with some sleet. I basically rolled my eyes and figured this would be the most we would see of it. But then it started to snow. Legit massive beautiful snowflakes. For hours!
With only a little drama getting both boys home safely from school (thank you again to my neighbors for fetching them in their sleighs!!) we then went on to enjoy a fun afternoon in the snow.
Now you Northerners can mock us all you want, but this truly is the type of thing that happens so rarely around here that each Atlanta snow day is forever etched in your memory.
Even Bullseye our Elf got into the fun overnight and started a snowball fight. That silly Elf!
The weathermen were calling for snow all night and they did not disappoint! We woke up (EARLY EARLY EARLY EARLY) and had almost 5 inches total! It was like Christmas morning around here. This was the most snow this girl has seen in Atlanta in as long as I can remember, especially in December. We were actually trying to remember, and think maybe it was the storm of 1993? Does anyone remember anything more recent?
Here is the house after the full night of snowing.
One of the funniest things about snow days in the south is what everyone ends up coming out wearing. While some have appropriate snow clothes, most kids end up wearing whatever their parents can scrounge up. We were no exception!
Once we got bundled up, mismatched gloves and too-big/small clothes, it was time for snow man building, sledding and general mayhem on the street!
Once the fun was had, it was time to head inside for some hot chocolate and fireside playing.
I think I went through three outfits on Saturday! But gotta love the timing of the new duck boots. Perfect for walking in the winter wonderland!
What a fun day that I will remember forever.
To top off the snow excitement, Southern Living even featured our home on their Instagram feed.
Stay warm friends!

Yes, it’s been a long time since we have seen this much snow. Ice yes, but not this beautiful fluffy snowman building, sledding kinda snow. And yes, it was 1993! I was pregnant with our second child and several of us were just reminiscing about it today. We were in a newer neighborhood and that is the day many of us met, while the kiddos were sledding. Fun times!

That’s so pretty! I’m in Missouri where the weather normally includes snow but we haven’t had any yet (minus a few flakes to make me hopeful but they disappeared faster than they came!).

The house is beautiful in the snow! Congratulations on getting on Southern Living Blog post! The boys look so cold/cute
in their snow outfits and looks like Brian enjoyed the snow with his little buddies!

It snowed in San Antonio on Thursday night! Everyone went outside that night and you could hear children from all over the neighborhood screaming. It has been 33 years since we had enough snow to have fun playing in it!
Heather says
Oh man! That sounds so fun! Stay warm!

That looks like SO MUCH FUN! I miss my boys being little! We also got snow here, just north of Montgomery AL, but only about 1 inch. It was still beautiful. Your children are adorable, and they will remember that day warmly.

Will you share information about the sweater? Love it with the scarf! Thanks!
