Lessons in Chemistry was all the buzz this summer with over 46,000 reviews on Amazon and a Good Morning America book club choice. Today I am giving a quick Lessons in Chemistry book review. I was thrilled to have a chance to read this book after so many people had recommended it. The story is based on a fictional female scientist in the 1960’s and describes what the struggles were like for women in science competing in a man’s world. The leading character is unique and quirky and the her character evolves from a scientist to a television personality. I found it interesting- unlike anything I had ever read! If you liked Where’d You Go Bernadette or Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine- you will enjoy this character and story. Did you read it yet? I would love to hear your Lessons in Chemistry book review in the comments.
I was fortunate to read this while at a friend’s lake house- so not only did I have a great book- I had a great view!

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.
But like science, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo.
Laugh-out-loud funny, shrewdly observant, and studded with a dazzling cast of supporting characters, Lessons in Chemistry is as original and vibrant as its protagonist.

I loved this book! I read it a couple of months ago (thank you Palm Springs Public Library!) and enjoyed it immensely. A book about a strong, intelligent and unusual woman. She inspires the women around her to do greater things and to question authority.
