Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

A Farewell Tour

in Home Tour, Personal on 06/05/17

Happy Monday friends! Well last week was definitely a whirlwind! We closed on our old house AND the new house on Friday afternoon and then immediately loaded up the boys to head straight down to the beach for the long weekend. Nothing like leaving the reality of moving boxes and packing tape behind to hit the sandy beaches of Florida. It was a great getaway but this week is definitely crunch time and I am currently typing surrounded by boxes.

Thank you SO much for all of your well wishes on our big news! We are excited for our new chapter (even if it’s only one mile away) and I can’t wait to make this new house our home!  Moving day is next weekend so this is the last week we will spend in our home. It is bittersweet to leave this great house so today I thought I would share a farewell tour of her. She has been our “Home Sweet Home” for seven years, and part of the inspiration behind starting this blog, so she deserves a proper farewell don’t you think?

Since I have been blogging for a large portion of the time we have lived here, I will just share below some of my favorite highlights from throughout the years as well as some current shots of the home.

Come on in and let’s say “Farewell”…

Foyer

Nothing says welcome more than your foyer and I always enjoyed decorating ours! Y’all. I painted our foyer wall FOUR times when we lived here. FOUR. I still can’t decide which version I loved more- this one with the bold navy wall with black and white striped rug…

Or this one with the fresh coat of white and this rug I found at Scott’s Antique Market.

Living Room

This has been the heart of the home since day one. It is literally in the center of the house and has probably had the most different looks throughout the years. This is how it looked most recently.

Master Bedroom

This room was a labor of love when I pulled it together during the One Room Challenge on a very small budget.  I forgot how it looks with the bed made so it’s always nice to have pictures for proof. 🙂

Nursery

Well, this one could really make this Mama cry. There will be no “nursery” at the new house. Only two big boy rooms. I. Can’t. Even.

I remember picking out the color of the paint thinking it would work perfect for a boy or girl! If these walls could talk they would tell you that we could hardly stand the wait for our Sweet Boy to arrive. Then how we came home from the hospital bleary eyed and stunned with a baby in tow. How I evolved into a “mom” in the wee hours of the night on that blue glider. And how we are walking away almost six years having learned so much about parenthood and life in general in these 4 walls.

Here it was for Sweet P, taken back in the day before the blog.

And here it was for Sweet B: My style definitely changed ALOT in three years! This room never really got redone properly for baby #2 and it ended up being somewhat of a blank slate. Sorry sweet boy… I vow to make your room extra special at the next house!

Family Room

I will miss that fireplace the most in this room. One of our favorite spots in the house for sure!

Dining Room

This was once a sunroom. Then it was a playroom. And it finally landed as our dining room. I made this space over during another One Room Challenge and I have loved it’s coastal vibe. I am going to miss that chandelier too!

Basement Playroom

This is probably the cleanest this room has ever been. But that is what it was for!

Kitchen

If these walls could talk, they would tell you about the baby showers hosted, the birthday parties enjoyed, the champagne toasted, how the fridge was stuffed with food from friends when the boys were born and how many times friends and families gathered here.

Guest Room

Laundry Room

I think I drafted three different posts about our laundry closet over the years but never really shared it. Our laundry room used to be down in the basement but The Big Sweet engineered a way for me to get it on the main level right by our bedrooms when Baby #2 was on it’s way. What a lifesaver! #hesakeeper

Boys Bathroom

If these walls could talk they would tell you about the countless baths taken in this tub. I mean, almost six years of nightly baths. Wow. I think I might cry just thinking about it so I better move on…FAST!

Sweet P Big Boy Room

If these walls could talk they would tell you about how I lovingly turned this room into a big boy room when I was about six months pregnant to make room for baby #2. How I painted those stripes and created that sweet art of our dog Bella. About the night we moved Sweet P from his crib to a big boy bed. And about how these floors have seen 1,000,000 Lego pieces since.

Home Gym

I never did get around to sharing this space with you here so I figured I would include it now. We took a corner of the unfinished basement and painted it all bright white, added some inexpensive flooring, our treadmill and a mounted TV. Instant home gym!

Back Porch

I think we hung those string lights the first weekend we moved in almost seven years ago and they have lit many evenings chilling on this porch. We LOVE this backyard!

Of course, I have to mention also how this home was featured in a local magazine- Simply Buckhead. That was such a fun experience and it was such an honor to have the feature!

But the best part of this house has been the superheros that live in it with me.

OK. Now off to shed some tears… er, I mean…. pack!

xoxo-

Heather

Your “old” home is picture perfect. I know you’ll miss the memories, but your new one will keep you busy making more and more memories. Is your home in Collier Hills???

Love it! Oh my goodness I actually love the home gym, and how you found a little corner to make one. Such a beautiful home but your next one will be filled with new exciting memories. Good luck with the packing!
