Dapper Dresser for our Lil’ Dude

in BOY MOM, Easy DIY on 02/26/14

Hey hey hey! How about a spunky dresser reveal to kick off your hump day? I finally finished this up over the weekend and was excited to get it in place in the Big Boy Room.

What do you think? Does is just scream “Mad Men” with it’s dapper charming ways?

It didn’t always look this spunky and smart though. When we were given this dresser, it started out like this. Waa. Waa. Waa.

But hey, free is free!
With a quick sand job,
and the careful removal of the floral adornments,
and a trip to Sherwin Williams for some paint… (low VOC of course!)
It now looks like this!
We considered changing out the hardware, but decided to just give it a coat of Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. We may still change them down the road, but for now we are good with the “vintage” look! 🙂
The paint color is Sherwin Williams Grasshopper and I love how vibrant and modern the green is.

It was the sweet husband’s idea to add the pop of green on the drawers instead of painting the entire dresser green. We fell in love in love with this dresser at Room and Board – but with the price tag of $1500 it was definitely not coming home with us. Clearly our furniture is not as modern, but the pop of green gives it a little something- something extra!

I love the way it turned out and is such a playful addition for a little man’s room. This is the perfect space to not take ourselves so seriously! 🙂

We have lots to do still and definitely need to figure out lamps and accessories for the top of the dresser. But I keep reminding myself of my very own mantra-  Home Wasn’t Built in a Day!
Sometimes I wish I could blink and have it done, but I really do enjoy the process.

So, this is a step in crossing off #4 on the old to-do list for this room.  I will be sure to keep you posted on the progress!

Big Boy Bedroom To Do List:
1. Paint White Stripes on Navy Accent Wall
2. Functional storage/shelving for books, trains, cars, cars and more cars.
3. New window treatments for the windows
4. Find some bedroom furniture including: Full Bed, Dresser, Chest, Nightstand
5. New Super Soft Rug (DONE! Thanks to Mohawk!)
6. Lighting
7. DIY artwork- love the idea of a chocolate lab silhouette
8. Clean out the closet (YIKES)
9. Move navy chair from den to his bedroom (DONE!)

10. Baskets for toys, laundry, and clutter in general

Gray and green are one of my favorite color combinations – so perfect for a boy's room – so I'm loving those colors on the chest! What a super cute start to finishing off his room – will look forward to seeing the finished space! So glad you linked up to Best of the Nest!

Hey, Heather. Very cool. What paint color/brand is the silver gray paint. I love it.

    Many Thanks, Deborah
