Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

{A Blank Slate} Big Boy Room Inspiration

in Lifestyle on 02/06/14

Whoa.
I am uber emotional these days y’all. I guess it’s the combination of being preggers and moving my baby into his big boy room.
I need to get a grip! 🙂
But nevermind that. Amid the tears I am actually pretty excited to create a big boy room for Mr. Big Stuff. So I put together an inspiration board for our vision for the room.

The room is actually not entirely a blank slate because I am going to stick with the current wall colors: Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray with an accent wall in Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. However, I am thinking of adding some white stripes on the navy wall to brighten the space a bit and add some playfulness!

Also, recognize the rug? I mentioned it was the starting off point for the room and I luuuuurve it! Be sure to enter for your chance to win here.

We have been busy clearing out the current guest room to make room for big boy furniture. As a reminder, here was the room in it’s most current state as our guest room:
And here is what it looks like now.
Keeping it real.
This room is pretty much a sight for sore eyes!
I told you we had our work cut out for us!
But it’s all good, we still have about 20 weeks until we become a fam of 4.
Famous last words right? Sounds like a lot of time, but I know how quickly it can creep up on you!

I think you would agree we are going to be busy over the next couple months!
Here is what I plan to tackle-
Big Boy Bedroom To Do List:
1. Paint White Stripes on Navy Accent Wall
2. Functional storage/shelving for books, trains, cars, cars and more cars.
3. New window treatments for the windows
4. Find some bedroom furniture including: Full Bed, Dresser, Chest, Nightstand
5. New Super Soft Rug (DONE! Thanks to Mohawk!)
6. Lighting
7. DIY artwork- love the idea of a chocolate lab silhouette
8. Clean out the closet (YIKES)
9. Move navy chair from den to his bedroom (DONE!)
10. Baskets for toys, laundry, and clutter in general

OK, now hand me a tissue please!
Were you emotional creating a nursery or big boy room?
Please tell me I am not the only one!

Love the mood board. It's what I'd love to do for my son. I picked out a green rug which ended up the wrong shade but it'll work for now. We haven't remodeled our room yet either (down to the studs, new window, etc) so that'll happen eventually and then I may copy you! I love the gray, navy, emerald combo. Can't wait to see it completed! And I adore the pup pillow!!!

I love your plan! I cried every time I made changes in my boys' rooms! I even cried just recently went we switched out a twin bed to a queen bed. Being a mom can be so emotional! Good luck getting it all done – you're doing great so far!
