Guest Room Reveal

in Lifestyle on 11/16/15

Guest room reveal? You mean to tell me there is a room in this house I have never revealed? It’s hard to believe but it’s true!

Before we get too far into the holiday season, I wanted to share our never before seen guest room. I haven’t talked about this room much over the past year, because honestly… there just wasn’t much to talk about.

You may recall that our guest room actually used to be our formal dining room.
If you are new here, let me bring you up to speed. When we found out baby number 2 was on the way, our 3 bedroom house was about to be guest-room-less. So we did what any normal person would do…

We closed off the formal dining room wall and added a closet.
Fourth bedroom. BAM!

Is it a perfect solution giving up your formal dining room for a bedroom? No.

I will say most of the time I don’t miss it at all, but there is something about the holidays that makes a southern girl crave a formal dining space. However, since we really only used it during the holidays, it was hard to justify the formal dining space. Overall I am really happy that we made the change. It really does work best for our family and I am glad we can host family at the holidays instead of just feeding them in a nice dining room.

That change was 1.5 years ago and it sat pretty much untouched until this summer. I finally decided to give it some love and failed to share it with you sooner. I have said it before and I will say it again. Sometimes it just pays off to wait until inspiration strikes. Now, I am not saying to never decorate. Just don’t force it. You will end up spending time and money and you won’t love the result.

When I found the duvet things just started falling into place. For the rest, I just grabbed things from around the house and gave this boring room a little extra attention.

One project I tackled that I had never attempted before was dying old white Ikea curtains green. They didn’t turn out quite as saturated as I’d hoped but I love the pop of color regardless. But my favorite DIY project was doing these darling silhouettes of the Sweets. It was SO easy. And free since I already had the frames on hand. I see some Christmas presents in my future.

Of course, I already started zhushing this up with some holiday decor this weekend so I will be back to share that soon. Are you as excited for the upcoming holiday house tours as me?!?! I just LOVE this time of year!

With that, I am off to get this week started. Hope you have a great day!
Xoxo-
Heather

This looks like a very similar color palette to what we have in our master bedroom. Do you have an inspiration board for this room that you can share?

Looks great! Great reminder to not force it – I’ve definitely been guilty there!
