Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

One Room Challenge- Let’s Do This!

in Living & Family Room, One Room Challenge on 10/05/16

Oh-man-oh-man-oh-man, it is that time again- we are kicking off week one of Calling it Home’s latest round of One Room Challenge. I am thrilled (and nervous, and spazzing, and wondering if I have lost my mind) to be participating again. Thanks again to Linda who created this fun challenge and has now helped me finish three rooms in my home.  I must be a glutton for punishment to try and pull together a room in 6 weeks, but I don’t know what it is I keep coming back for more, I must like the challenge. And it’s ALWAYS good to have motivation to get ‘er done. To see my past projects- here is the Master Bedroom reveal, and here is the Family Room + Dining Room I did in the spring.

If you are not familiar with the One Room Challenge (let’s go ahead and refer to it as ORC), it is an online event that brings together bloggers that love to design spaces and challenges them to transform a room and document it along the way. All in a 6 week time frame!

At first I didn’t think I had it in me to get a room makeover going this fall. But then I threw caution to the wind and decided to go for it. See how I live on the edge y’all?

For this round of ORC, I have decided to give our living room a refresh and below is my initial vision. It’s always interesting to see where this goes throughout the six weeks. I’m calling it Mad Men meets the South… so there is a little mid-mod feel mixed with my own eclectic style.

Honestly, this room has served us very well, just as it is. But I haven’t really done anything to it since I painted it Repose Gray and threw those Ikat curtains up when I was pregnant almost 6 years ago. Oh, besides changing out throw pillows every season… ok, ok, ok…every month.  So, without further ado- let’s show the befores.

Aw yes, I don’t think I will miss the wall of brown.

To help keep me organized, here is the list I hope to conquer in the next 6 weeks:

  1. New Rug
  2. New Furniture Arrangement
  3. Paint Media Cabinet Lacquered Navy
  4. New Art
  5. Zhush up the existing curtains and rods- new trim? painted?
  6. Paint the Ottoman
  7. Lighting- new lamps (already added recessed lighting)
  8. Add Console or shelving
  9. Mantel Decor
  10. Fireplace updating
  11. Barmoire Updating- New knobs? Paint?

Welp. Sounds easy, right? Ha. Here goes nothing!

xoxo-

Heather

I love those curtains but I can’t seem to find just the right ones. Is there any chance you know where I can get these?
