DIY American Flag Pallet

Thanks for stopping by to see our summer front porch yesterday. As promised, I’m sharing the simple tutorial for the American flag pallet art today.

It’s no secret that I love turning “trash” into “treasure” and this DIY pallet flag is a perfect example. I think by now pallets are probably old news. They made a splash on Pinterest back in the day when it was all pallet, chevron and #MASONJAREVERYTHING. 

But if loving pallets is wrong, I don’t want to be right! 🙂

The first time I painted this pallet, I gave it a nautical feel with coral and aqua paint and a starfish as the stars. But after being outside for awhile, it had seen better days and needed a refresh. I was also looking to hang a flag on our front porch for the summer months. So this was the perfect reason to give this old pallet a new and improved patriotic flag refresh! 

I enlisted Sweet B to help and spent all of 15 minutes painting and hanging. 

For this project, I used DecoArt Outdoor Living paint in Ladybug  for the red and Picket Fence for the white. Shown in this image is the Poolside color but I actually ended up going with DecoArt Americana Decor Curb Appeal paint in Navy Blue that I had on hand. This  paint is a great choice for outdoor items and worked perfect on the pallet. 

Since I had already painted this pallet as a flag, it was easy to tape off to paint again. But if not, you can just eyeball where the blue would go.  For the stripes I just taped off the blue side and made the red and white stripes on each panel. Easy since very little taping was required. 

Once it was navy, red and white, I free-handed a few white stars on the navy section with the white paint.

Is it perfect? Not even close!

But that is part of the beauty! I reused an old pallet. The porch is festive. And no one cares about perfection. 🙂
