Beach House Refresh on a Budget {Part 3}

in Easy DIY, Home Tour, Inspiration on 08/13/18

Hi friends! Thanks to everyone for your sweet comments on the Beach House Refresh so far! It was truly a family effort and so much fun to work on. In case you missed it, so far we have covered the dining room turned sitting room and the new dining area. Today I am going to share the updates to the living room area. Surf’s Up! 🙂

This room didn’t really get a big update, but we did “borrow” the couch from in here to put in the new living nook. It actually worked really well because no one ever sat on the couch when it was in here and allowed this room to feel more inviting with 4 comfy chairs.

Would you believe that awesome surf board was stuck in a corner in the guest bedroom? It was just way too cool to be hiding so we pulled it out and now it becomes a fun statement piece for the room.

And did I mention that my sister and I took surf lessons while we were there, so we are practically surfers. Ha.

I already shared that we made three new no-sew curtain panels and they go all across the back wall on all three windows. It really helps soften the wall and add some interest to the windows.

I also made this custom sign for the house. Mom had an old wooden sign with a beachy saying on it, but we thought it would be fun to create something special for the beach house.

The boys created a picture perfect moment so I snapped this cute image of them and Mom already had the frame.

The biggest update in this room is adding a new TV stand. When we decided the TV needed to be on something higher, Mom went on the hunt. She found this great Ethan Allen stand for around $20 at a thrift store. It is SO perfect in here and matches the dining table perfect.

Of course, this right here is what the beach house is all about. Snuggle time!

And we didn’t make much updates to this side of the room but I thought I would include a picture of it too so you can see how it all looks together. So soothing!

    “As lovely as these houses are they don’t say summer at the beach, to me. I grew up on the east coast. Summers were always spent at the beach.

    As a teenager spent summers working there and working on the boardwalk and any other manual labour job just to pay the boardinghouse rent.

    For me, the ultimate beach home will always be soft grey painted floorboards, no rugs, simple metal beds with white bedspreads and sheer curtains on the windows blowing in the wind. Around a very plain wood table with simple chairs are people casually dressed some still in bathing suits cracking crabs eating and chatting. And as you said hydrangeas all around the cottage.

    The over the top beautiful homes don’t do much for me…..not at the beach. You just can’t compete with nature.
