Hi there friends. What can I even say today? It’s been another emotional week for our nation and a week that has certainly had me reflecting on my own prejudices and thoughts. My heart and eyes have been opened and I absolutely accept that I personally can do better. I have already come up with several real ways I will do better. While all of this has been heartbreaking and painful, I do believe that there is true change happening so I am focusing on the long-term positive outcome. I think we can all probably use a cup of coffee this morning, so grab your coffee and head out on the porch- it’s time for this week’s Front Porch Coffee Talk.
KITCHEN ISLAND SUMMER UPDATE
When I want to stop and think and reflect, I usually turn to music and a creative outlet. So this week I found myself feeling the need to release some creativity. This entire blog was born out of this need and it truly is my therapy. Some of my best ideas come to me when I am working with my hands. So I was happy when inspiration struck and I turned an old thrifted faux orchid into a new masterpiece!
I bought this big faux orchid awhile back for around $10 but it wasn’t really doing it for me as it always felt a little too big and bold. So I decided to see if I could tame it a little bit. So I took the faux orchid apart and grabbed a big blue and white bowl to use as a new vessel. This bowl was also thrifted and I remember thinking it was such a splurge for around $20. 🙂
I yanked and pulled and rearranged and after a little while I came up with this. I used this $300 Pottery Barn version as my inspiration. While mine doesn’t have nearly the same amount of flowers, I do love the way it turned out. I love that I was able to use what I had and repurpose both pieces to create this for around $30! Next time you see a faux orchid- go ahead and grab it! You can always turn it into your very own masterpiece.

I mentioned in my last Front Porch Coffee Talk that I was THRILLED to have my dining room back after the homeschool session wrapped up. Well imagine my absolute delight when I went to the Goodwill this week to make a donation and popped in just to see what I could find.
And then I found this gem.
For $30.
Sorry, not sorry.
I cannot wait to get it in place!
SUMMER OF DRESSES
Another summer day, another summer dress. This loose kaftan style one is from Target and a great dress to throw on because it is meets my number one criteria: MUST FEEL LIKE PAJAMAS. I am wearing a medium here but I could have probably sized down. To shop this dress- click here.
HYDRANGEAS HAVE ARRIVED
Hello there little hydrangea babies. Your mama has been waiting for you for months. Welcome to the world! It’s officially summer once these cute little things arrive, isn’t it?
COFFEE AT HOME
I was never big for doing Starbucks runs, even before our world got flipped upside down. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love to have some fun with my coffee at home. Ever since I got that clear Starbucks cup I love drinking my iced coffee out of it. So when I saw these cute cups on Etsy, I just had to share with you here. These would be so cute to get everyone for a girls weekend or a little gift for your girlfriend. I mean, who wouldn’t just love getting one of these? And they are the price of two Starbucks runs…

Go, you. That orchid is AMAZING! (My mom and I both hoard and grow real moth orchids, but I gotta say… yours looks so much better! And what an improvement from the original.)
