House Divided Football Saturday {Printable and Giveaway}

in create, Food, Gather, PRINTABLES on 11/18/16

It’s that time of year.

The fridge is full of Thanksgiving leftovers…

You survived Black Friday…

and made it to College Football Rivalry Saturday.  And who doesn’t love some clean, old fashioned hate?

The Saturday after Thanksgiving in our family is always a fun one for us because I went to University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and the Big Sweet went to Georgia Tech. Yep, we are a House Divided.

Now, I am not going to get into how many times Georgia has beat Georgia Tech since we have been dating and married (ahem, UGA has won 13 of the 17 #blesstheirhearts) but I am going to talk tailgate. Because, after all, that is why I really go to the games. (duh)

Partnering with Kroger, I had fun coming up with some themed recipes for a fun Georgia vs Georgia Tech tailgate. While these ideas are themed to our Georgia teams, I think they could easily translate to any school colors. (well… except Tennessee… or Florida…or Alabama.. y’all are on your own, ha.)

So let’s start with the winners (a.k.a UGA). For my team, I came up with “Between the Hedges Spinach Dip”. If you are familiar with Georgia, then you know that games played in Athens at Sanford Stadium are said to be played “Between the Hedges” due to the field being surrounded by hedges. So I used a bread bowl to create a dome/hedge look and some spinach dip is the field.

I sliced some cherry tomatoes to spell a G. And then to make it extra festive, I also made some fun UGA Food Flags, a printable you can download here.

The ingredients were all found at Kroger, and then I used the recipe on the back of the Knorr Vegetable Mix for my Spinach Dip Recipe.

Spinach Dip Ingredients:

  • Breadbowl (I only used one loaf here, but would recommend two)
  • Chopped Spinach
  • Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix
  • Mayo
  • Sour Cream
  • Water Chestnuts
  • Tomato (optional)
  • Food Pick Flags (free printable here)

Next up, Georgia Tech. I must admit, I also feel the love for Georgia Tech 364 days a year, the only day I cheer against them is this rivalry game. Since we live in Atlanta, we actually go to lots of Tech games (heading there tomorrow!) because it is so close. I love how it is tucked right in the center of our city and a great way to spend a Saturday.

For this recipe, I was inspired by their team name- the Yellow Jackets and made an “In the Swarm” Honey Cream Cheese Fruit Dip.

Then I used an assortment of black and yellow fruit in stripes to look like a Yellow Jacket. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

The Honey Cream Cheese Dip is super simple. I just used a block of Cream Cheese ( I actually tried Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese and loved how thick it made it!) mixed with honey and a little milk, blended until smooth.

While we can’t agree on teams this rivalry Saturday, we do agree that we have the best two mascots in college football. I mean Uga and Buzz have to be the coolest!

On rivalry Saturday I’m obligated to root for Ohio State. Go Buckeyes!! Beat that team from up north. I’m thinking Sweet Hawaiian Turkey and Swiss sliders. Yum. Even though they aren’t bucks colors.

We have our rivalry game this weekend also. Va Tech plays UVA in the Commonwealth Classic. I’ll be rooting for the HOKIES. (I’m still thawing out from our trip to Notre Dame.) Thanks for the chance to win.
