I have horses on the brain….And that can only mean one thing- the countdown to the Kentucky Derby has begun! We are off to the races planning our Kentucky Derby party, and YOU are all “virtually” invited to come along for the fun! For YEARS, I have wanted to host a Derby party but due to moving, pregnancies, babies… it has never worked out. But hopefully 2016 is the first “annual” and we are full steam ahead!
I hope you will be inspired to host a party too, even if it’s just a couple neighbors, friends or family. If you know me, you know I LOVE a good themed party. But another benefit of an early May gathering is that it is the perfect motivator for some spring cleaning, pulling that room together that you’ve been dragging your feet on, and getting those spring flower beds spruced up. We have roughly six weeks to pull some fun ideas together..
Here is our “Derby-Do” list that I plan to check off the next six weeks here with you.
- Invite: Pick out the Invitations
- Party Planning: Decor & Party Accessories
- Eat: Menu, Bourbon Bar & Mint Julep Recipe
- Wear: Derby Style- Dresses & Hats
- Decorate: Easy & Free Horse Artwork
- Party Tunes: Ultimate Run for the Roses Music Party Playlist
It really is the most exciting 2 minutes in sports! Now, if you were planning to host one, I would LOVE to hear your ideas and things you plan to tackle before the party. If you weren’t planning to host one, I hope these pictures of Kentucky Derby Party Inspiration will help change your mind. I have also started an inspirational Pinterest board so be sure to go over and check it out.
Let’s talk Derby!
xoxo-

The year my oldest turned 1 his birthday fell on Derby day and we had a Derby-themed birthday party. Haven’t thrown a Kentucky Derby party since. His 12th birthday falls on the Derby this year, so maybe we’ll revisit the theme?!
Heather says
What a fun birthday theme. YES!! That would be a really fun 12th birthday- you could do horseshoe tournaments for the kids! So fun!

Oh what fun you are going to have getting everything planned then carry the plans out. I loved all the pictures especially the horse centerpiece.
I hope you have a grand time and look forward to all the future post.

Thanks Treva! Lots to do but hopefully it will all come together. I guess all I really need is food, drinks and a hat! ha 🙂

Heather,
Derby parties are so much fun. I held onto my KY roots and we had them when we lived in NY but this year due to Little Miss arrival we won’t be able to have one. I gave a link to a wonderful Bourbon Ball recipe, it has been my favorite by far. Even if you tend to add to much bourbon which I did last year when I was busy talking on the phone and making these at the same time, they are still super tasty! Have so much fun and our guest loved having a best hat and bow tie contest.

Oh, good tip on the Bourbon Ball recipe and hat contest! And I would say Little Miss is WAY more exciting than a Derby Party. I can’t wait to virtually kiss her face when she arrives!
