Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

Look What I Inherited!

in Lifestyle on 02/12/15

Last fall, I found a box of “Made in Japan” Blue Willow dishes at the Goodwill for about $40.

I was pretty excited about this find and put them to good use over the holidays with various table settings.

Imagine my excitement last week when my mother-in-law told me she found a tub in storage of Blue Willow dishes that had been her mothers, and she wanted me to have them.

Y’all. I love family heirlooms. The older I get, the more I truly appreciate them. Even the littlest things really go a long way with me.

So can you even imagine how giddy I am to have a china pattern that I have always loved that were Brian’s grandmothers!?!?

The best part? These were her everyday dishes. And from the looks of it, she collected it over quite a period of time. Some of it looks very old and some is much newer.

Here is a close up comparison of the inherited Johnson Brother set vs. the Goodwill “Made in Japan” set.

These old-but-new-to-me dishes will certainly be getting used around here.

xoxo-
Heather

My mother-in-law, passed away years ago, when I was much younger. But she also gave to me her Blue Willow Set. It is beautiful, upon seeing yours – I plan to start using them again. Our kitchen is blue cabinets and white ones as well. I will have fond memories when I take them out of storage . So, I’m happy that you will have new memories in the making.

Yes, me too…I can't stand this post, lol!
You are a lucky gal for inheriting such gorgeous dishes to add to your own collection too! I am one that family inherited things add so much more value to china, because they have a story, or many stories to tell about family gatherings.
Congrats hon, I'm glad for you.

I absolutely love blue and white dishes. I try to use cobalt accessories and it really makes those blue and whites look awesome!

I love Blue Willow and I have collected a LOT of it. I even have 14 of the divided grill plates! My favorites are the “black Japan” because of the deep rich blue ink.
Use you blue willow with love!
