Our Back Porch || Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

in Porch Life on 05/14/20

I know I talk about our front porch quite often around here, and it has become a bit of a sidekick for my Friday Front Porch Coffee Talk series. But I can’t let the season pass without giving our back porch area it’s time in the spotlight. Usually, if you can’t find me on the front porch, you can probably find me out on our back porch! This has been a refreshingly cool spring and we are still enjoying fires out here in the evenings which has been a delight. I could definitely get used to an Atlanta without humidity.

The other night as our fire was winding down, I grabbed my camera and snapped a few pictures of our outdoor room to share with you here. We’ve now been enjoying our “new” home for three years and it does seem that over the years it has evolved as I acquire things here and there.

Don’t you like how I use acquire like I’m some fancy lady collecting family heirlooms?

The reality is that this porch is a mix of thrifted, gifted, repurposed and end of season sales! 🙂  There is no shame in my well-collected home game! In fact, whenever I think of this room I always think of the term “Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue”.  So let’s take a look at a few of the highlights, shall we?

BACK PORCH  –   SOMETHING OLD

It’s hard to pick just one thing when it comes to something old, since most things on this porch are old! But today let’s chat about the dining table. When our friends got new porch furniture, they gave us their old black iron table and four chairs. This thing is sturdy as a rock and is over 50 years old and lived in three states ! But I wanted to give it a little something-something so I added a gingham tablecloth I had and swapped the iron chairs for some resin wicker chairs. It’s amazing how much these tweaks help to soften the space, coordinate with the room better and be more comfy now too!

BACK PORCH  –  SOMETHING NEW

Would you believe I won this awesome Boho 3 piece conversation set? YES! When I was at the Better Homes & Garden event last fall, I won this amazing set and I am so in love. I love the colors and texture- and they are SO super comfy. Someone buy me a lottery ticket!

BACK PORCH  –   SOMETHING BORROWED

I am having a moment with faux topiary plants so I had some fun scattering a few on the table. My sweet neighbor also grabbed me a beautiful lavender topiary on her Costco run that you can see there on the counter next to the grill. Lots of these planters are on “loan” from my mom, so those are my something borrowed.

BACK PORCH  –   SOMETHING BLUE

The something blue is actually something also something old and new! We’ve had our outdoor sofa for over 10 years and it’s cushion had seen better days. Because it is a custom size, it has proven to be quite challenging to get a replacement cushion and an expense I never wanted to make. So I found a new very cost effective solution. I am planning on breaking this down for you in more detail next week but I am so thankful to have this navy cushion cover for the old cushion!

Well, it’s always fun sharing our outdoor rooms with you and see how they’ve changed over the years. (You can see last year’s similar tour here.) I hope you are encourage to acquire things for your rooms too. Remember it doesn’t have to be big investments or family heirloom pieces. In fact, the only family heirlooms you might spot on the coffee table is that big heart shaped rock.  🙂 We have been collecting heart shaped rocks and this particular one is from Jackson, Wyoming. See what I mean? Things can definitely be “acquired” without spending much. (If loving a rock is wrong, I don’t want to be right….)

I hope you enjoyed this stroll through our Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue spring back porch. While lots of these items have been acquired over the years, I did try to source the same or similar items below.  Please let me know if I missed anything.
