We spent the long (cold!) weekend up at the lake enjoying the lingering snow and down time. After the busy fall of finishing the lake house build, the move and then going right into the holidays- it was nice to just “be” and enjoy the space. Honestly, I found myself pretty much out of energy when it came to doing anything else to the house the last few months. But being up there this weekend recharged me and I am so excited to continue to make my Pinterest board come to life.
One project I was able to pull together this weekend was a little table vignette in the mud room. And it all came together for around $10! Here’s how:
Over Thanksgiving break, I spotted a pair of pleated lampshades at the lake thrift store. (you bet I have already found the best spots in town!) I didn’t grab them then. But when they were STILL there when I went over Christmas break- AND 75% off I knew it was time for them to come home with me! So I got the pair for around $3.00. They were pretty dingy and dusty, but I loved the hard pleated style and wanted to take on the challenge.
LAMPSHADE BEFORE
Before painting, I tried to clean them as best I could. To remove the dust, I tried blowing the pleats with our blower. That helped, but didn’t really remove the years of dust. So I ended up running my finger through the pleats with painters tape, and found it to be the most effective way to get the dust off. This was key to do before spray painting so that it would have s smoother coat and not show all of the dust and crud.
I’ve been going through lots of cans of this color lately- Rustoleum Satin Slate Blue. It’s just a really pretty French Blue and I love it!
LAMPSHADE AFTER
And here is the final result. Not bad for around $10!
Doesn’t the blue make the space?
Happy thrifting!

Lovely!
Wow – I love this idea. And yes to that blue!
Love a good thrift flip… and that blue really is great!
