One thing is for certain, this pandemic is really making everyone get creative when it comes to celebrating birthdays! My Dad turned 70 last week and since we couldn’t host a big celebration for him, we surprised him with a socially distant 1950’s themed drive-by-street-party. And since every party needs a theme (even a drive by party) we decided to play off the year he was born and ran with the 50’s theme. Yep, those are poodle skirts you see!
My sister, Mom and I chatted a few weeks ago and concocted our plan. We would wear our 1950’s attire and serve glass Coca-Cola bottles and Moon Pies. Mom decided to keep it a secret from Dad so it was fun to give him a little surprise!
Some of the guests definitely joined the fun and dressed up. I rummaged through our costume tub and came up with my Pink Ladies jacket (from a Halloween party circa 2009) for me and this Elvis costume for the hubs (from a Halloween circa 2003). The boys were a little harder and I intended for them to have blue jeans rolled up with white t-shirts…. but we do live in HOTlanta so they got white t-shirts and some sunglasses instead.
Mom had a couple poodle skirts so my Sister and her wore those.
Me and my sis!
For music, I pulled my car up to the top of the driveway and just played a 1950’s station through my phone. It was so easy and perfect! We used a tailgate tent as our home base and hung some balloons and streamers.
Gotta love Sweet P giving a flossing lesson to dance to some 50’s music! 🙂
Happy 70th birthday Dad! Keep Shaking, Rattling & Rolling!
Hey, who doesn’t love a reason to get dressed up!? I hope this inspires you if you are looking for ideas for a socially distant celebration. I would love to hear if you have had any out of the box pandemic celebrations!
