Before the busy holiday week, we decided to have an impromptu 4th birthday party for Sweet B on Friday night. It was fun to let the kids run in the sprinklers, slip n slide and have water squirters while the parents enjoyed a happy hour. Organized chaos at it’s finest! Read on for lots of pirate theme party ideas…
Since our little guy is into pirates, we went with a pirate theme which works great for summer and sun. Of course, it was a little chaotic getting the house ready before everyone arrived. I tried to snap a few shots of the set up to share here before the party guests arrived.
Pirate Theme Party Ideas- DECORATIONS
For the party decor, I used mostly what I had on hand, but I did buy a few pirate party accessories. This flag had some pretty big bang for the pirate decor buck coming in under $5. Amazon to the rescue!
I snagged this wooden crate from mom’s front porch and it was perfect for the drink station to fit the whole buried treasure pirate look I was going for.
Pirate Theme Party Ideas- SNACKS
For snacks, I set up some apps inside and then put a big bucket of Pirate Booty out. Really can you go wrong with Pirate Booty for a four year old’s birthday party? The answer is NO. My kids are OBSESSED and I must admit it is highly addictive.
I just added tons of bags of the booty to the barrel planter I bought a couple years back for the derby party. And then I added a couple pirate swords from the Dollar Tree for good measure. 🙂
In addition to the flag, I ordered some eye patches and these pirate hats. I would say not to even worry about the pirate hats as the kids were to busy to stop to put them on. Oh well!
Pirate Theme Party Ideas- PARTY FAVORS
Since we whipped the party together and I sent informal texts around inviting friends and their siblings, I wasn’t sure how many kids to expect so didn’t know how many party favors to make.
But was there really ever a party if there are no party favors to prove it? So I put these little pirate party favors together very easily and inexpensive.
The content included a pirate eye patch, a ring pop and a packet of gold coins. I made and printed the little tag and then the boys helped me put them all together the night before.
Pirate Theme Party Ideas- ENTERTAINMENT
The invitation let everyone know to wear bathing suits for some splash fun and we set up a sprinkler, a slip ‘n slide and a big baby pool with lots of water squirters. Really, I think my kids would have been happy in a puddle- they just love water!
Pirate Theme Party Ideas- BIRTHDAY CAKE
To keep things easy, I popped into Publix a few days before and ordered this sheet cake. Our bakery does such a great job whenever I tell them a loose theme and they are yummy and inexpensive. I love the treasure map and it was a hit with our littlest pirate!
This party turned out great and I am so glad we decided to put it together. It is a good reminder that even if the porch isn’t pressure washed, it might rain, or it’s too hot, or lots of people are out of town for the holiday weekend, or WHATEVER excuse you come up with to not entertain… it’s always worth it in the end! And I hope these pirate theme party ideas inspire you too!
Happy birthday Sweet B!
xoxo-
