How to Make Your Office Pretty: Gussied Up Dollar Store Scissors

in Dollar Store Crafts, Lifestyle on 10/08/14

Y’all, something is wrong with me! I seriously have spray paint fever!

NOTHING IS SAFE!

Earlier this week, I shared one step I took to make my new “cloffice” pretty by painting some old office supplies gold. The closet-office still has a long way to go but the gold accessories definitely make me smile!

But I couldn’t stop with the stapler, tape dispenser and 3-hole punch.
I just HAD to go and paint my scissors too.

Do you know Nate Berkus? He is an interior designer who designs beautiful and cozy rooms. He also currently has a collection at Target. Part of this line-up includes a pair of Gold Shears.

They are $16.99. And they are darling.

I admit, these look pretty nice. And sure, $16.99 isn’t a ton of money and might be worth the splurge to you. But since I just bought myself a pair of scissors from the Dollar Tree and had the Rustoleum Gold Spray paint on hand, I figured I would give it a try.

Here is what I started with. Pretty standard scissors.
They were, you guessed it, one dollar.

Since these were rubber-type handles, I wanted to paint them and use them for a couple days to ensure that this would work before I went off blabbering to you about them…I did end up adding a coat of clear gloss spray paint. I had it on hand and figured it couldn’t hurt.

Y’all. It worked.

And I adore them!

Ladies, GO TO THE DOLLAR STORE.

Buy yourself a pair of scissors for a buck.

Spray paint them.

Sorry for being so bossy, but you will thank me later! 🙂

Happy painting!

And if you are like me and can’t stop with the scissors, click here to see how I transformed my stapler and tape dispenser. Ah, the power of paint!

Make Life Cute!

I keep wondering where folk are getting these gorgeous gold scissors. And now, my mind is blown in the absolute BEST sense. So simple. So fantastic. And I'm SO doing this. Thanks for the inspiration (as always) Ms. Heather.

This is too funny – I JUST bought the Nate Berkus stapler and scissors a couple of weeks ago and Target and then RETURNED them b/c I felt guilty. Then I purchased some gold spray paint at Hobby Lob and have been waiting to paint them b/c I'm a little scared! Even funnier – I have a zebra pattern pillow I made as part of my own home office makeover that is nearly identical to your fabric beneath your "new" scissors. Thanks for giving me the courage to break out that paint can!

I had the same idea for the scissors, tape dispenser and hole punch. Purchased the gold paint and did my sorter first (so pretty on my cherry office desk! Then all we’ve had here in my area of Florida is rain! So, firvtge moment the other 3 items are on hold. Can’t wait for blue skies and sunshine!
    Great job!
