DIY Statement Earring Organization

in Dollar Store Crafts, Easy DIY, style on 01/25/18

Hi friends! I hope you are having a wonderful 2018 so far. I’ve been pretty much hibernating after the holidays just trying to recharge and regroup. I keep saying my official new year will be starting on February 1st so the countdown is on! It has been good to give myself grace the past month and I am feeling mentally ready to get back in the swing of things. I am even considering doing the Whole 30 and would love to hear if you have done it!

Part of my downtime has been spent tackling a few little organizational projects around the house. I started small in my closet with something that just basically drove me bananas in December. Over the past couple of years, I have acquired a collection of statement earrings. But without a plan in place to keep the organized, they were a tangled mess. On the rare occasion I got dolled up, I didn’t feel like sorting through them to wear them!

So I figured our monthly My DIY Dollar Store project series would be the perfect reason to find a solution for organizing my collection of fun statement earrings.

And yes, it only set me back two dollars! Yay for more money for a new pair of earrings. 🙂

Supplies Needed: (from the Dollar Tree)

  • Cooling Racks (came in pack of 2)
  • Burlap Ribbon (used almost all of the 9 feet of ribbon)
  • Household Staples & Stapler

To start I just cut strips of the ribbon to go across the cooling rack horizontally- 6 total strips as you can see below. I wanted to be sure to allow each row to hold both stud earrings as well as hook style earrings so that is why I chose to overlap some of the ribbon. The hook style earrings did best hanging directly on the cooling racks- especially any of those that had the earring backers on the hooks.

J Crew Tortoise Hoops       Turquoise Ball Drops     Burgundy Tassel

To hold the ribbon in place I used my stapler. Sure I can see the staples, but this is tucked in my closet so it works just fine and they really blend into the burlap and the silver of the rack.

TIP: I put the stud style ones I wear the most on the bottom because it is easiest for both hands to get them on and off.

Here you can see how it all looks from behind. There really was zero science to this, I just cut and stapled until it worked for my needs! Anything that takes a few minutes to put together and costs a couple bucks is a winner in my book!

I love statement earrings because it is such an easy way to transform a simple outfit. I just got the bright pink and navy tassel pair and they are already on repeat.

I found the multi-colored ball ones last summer and I pretty much planned all of my outfits around them! Sold out, but these are similar.

Anyway, back to the organizer… I love that it has flexibility for both the stud style earrings as well as the hooks all in one place. I also love that now I can easily see what I already have so I don’t buy duplicate styles.

Sometimes the smallest little projects can make me so happy. Now I have no excuse not to throw a pair on before walking out the door!

xoxo-

Heather

This is DARLING! And I have total earring envy right now, too, btw 🙂 Love simple little organizers that help keep us in check in our day-to-day!

Such a cute idea! I have to tell ya a story…when I was cleaning out my sweet MIL’s home last winter (she was 98 1/2 when she passed away), I stumbled upon a washcloth that was rolled up in one of her dresser drawers. She had stuck all of her post earrings in pairs on it! LOL Guess it worked 😉

Cute. Creative. Functional. Cheap. What’s not to love.

I kind of did the same thing with a frame and ba piece of burlap! Same outcome! Anything to keep jewelry organized!
