20 Minute Organizing || Spice Drawer Organizing Tips

in Organize on 05/03/20

OK, admittedly “how I organized my spice drawer” is probably not be the most exciting post I have written in my blogging career. It’s also probably not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of ways you want to spend your morning. However, I still felt the need to share it here with you for several reasons: The first reason is this- while you may not mentally be up for taking on big projects right now (I know I’m not), tackling a small project is still a great way to feel productive and your spice drawer is the perfect candidate. The second reason is that if you are anything like me- your spices are long overdue for a sorting and purging- we’ve been married 15 years and this is exactly the FIRST time I have ever done this.

The third reason? When you feel stressed out, you can open it and stare inside and feel an immense sense of calm and peace.

OK, so maybe I am being dramatic with that last one, but honestly this little spot has helped my sanityre. I have opened this drawer up at least once a day this past week and cannot tell you how happy I feel now when I see it! It is the little things in life, especially in the middle of a pandemic. So let me share with you the highlights of my new and improved spice drawer. So glad to have another 20 minute organizing nook done- this makes number 5 of the 20 organization projects in 2020.

SPICE DRAWER ORGANIZING:  BEFORE

No wonder I never wanted to cook- look at this drawer. (OK, so maybe I can’t blame this drawer on my lack of wanting to cook) I think when we moved in, I unpacked the spice box and haven’t looked back in three years. This is the first time I have ever had a spice “drawer” instead of having them in a cabinet and I am sold! If you have an extra drawer and are looking to do something similar- Amazon has the insert available in two different sizes.

To start, I took everything out and gave the drawer a good cleaning. Note to self, I should wipe this drawer down more often.

Once everything was out on the counter, I went through every container and sorted into keep and purge piles. I also wiped down each container I was keeping and made a pile of containers that needed labels.

Speaking of labels- I made my own in a Word document for the glass containers that I’ve had since we got married. The ones that came with them are long gone and they had become a mismatched mess over the years. I love the plain design of these and just used packing tape to apply the print outs to the jars.

SPICE DRAWER ORGANIZING:  AFTER

Alright, so now let’s take a look at the after! I just love how organized it feels, and I was able to sort things by categories and also align some in alphabetical order. Ahhhhhhhh……. it’s the little things guys. Now there is plenty of room for some new fun spices, and I even added our sprinkles here so I can easily grab them.

I hope this helps you feel inspired to tackle your spices, or another small area in your kitchen this week. Yay for having 5/20 spots organized of my 20 goal in 2020!
