Seven Simple Ways to Haunt Your Porch for Halloween

in Fall, holidays, Porch Life on 10/15/18

With the unusually warm October we had, I was having a hard time getting into the mood to even think about Halloween. But last Friday fall finally decided to arrive and we pulled out the Halloween tubs! I was doing my happy dance and FINALLY felt in the spirit of Halloween!  Today let’s talk about some great ideas for Halloween Porch Decor.

As I pulled out our Halloween decorations, I realized that I have a few favorite Halloween decorating staples that I always go to every year. Sure, I mix it up with different items year to year, but these are items that I always have in my arsenal. They are inexpensive, easy to store and in some cases even free! When we moved last year, I purged so much holiday stuff and am really trying to remain conscious of how much storage space holiday items take up.

So if you are looking for inspiration (or your kids are begging you to decorate for Halloween and you want to keep it simple!), here are some really easy Halloween Porch Decor ideas to get you started.

Halloween Porch Decor Ideas

1. WITCH HATS

This is probably one of my favorite things about our haunted porch! These things pack a major punch! I found all of my witch hats at the Dollar Tree so it only cost me $6. Last year, I got away with using painters tape to hang them… but was having trouble with that method this time. This year I used 3M hooks. Then I placed a safety pin at the tip of the hat and strung fishing wire through the safety pin. Then I just tied the fishing wire to the 3M hook. I LOVE the way they float and blow around in the wind. The hats also stack when it’s time to store them and I just place them right on top of the Halloween tubs.

2. PAPER BATS

These paper bats have had some serious mileage for me over the years. They were literally made from black construction paper I had on hand- so cost me nothing! From the fireplace mantel to the glass front door at our previous home to now on the front porch- these really have come in handy each year! Last year, I shared the tutorial for making these paper bats. Aside from being super versatile and costing pennies, another perk is that they take zero room to store in those holiday tubs which is a huge win for me.

3. ANYTHING BLACK AND WHITE

When I decorate a space for a holiday, I always like to use what I already have on hand that is not specific to a holiday. For Halloween my go-to is black and white. Here you can see that I am using a generic black and white striped rug. I also pulled out the black and white Ikea pillows that have floated around in just about every room.

4. DIY WREATH

I shared the tutorial for this DIY Spider Wreath last year, and using all supplies from the Dollar Tree it cost me less than $5! What I love about this wreath is that since I used burlap it is also versatile for different holidays and really doesn’t take up much storage space either.

5. LARGE SPIDER

Another way to get a big bang for your buck, and keep the storage to a minimum is with a large spider.  I found this one from Amazon that is around $13 and can deliver in 2 days. I mentioned already but these are very easy store as they just fold up pretty small.

6. STICKS AND FAKE COBWEBS

OK, go grab some sticks from your yard. Now put them in a big vase. Get some cobwebs (I get mine at the Dollar Tree or Target).

That. Is. All.

Now of course, you can add some orange lights for some extra haunt, but this is totally optional.

7. PROJECTOR LIGHT

The ghost projector was my splurge last year. But it was still under $20 bucks and really “made” the porch at night! It was so fun to have the house feel more haunted on Halloween with the lights!

Well I certainly hope you are inspired to haunt your porch this year with these Halloween Porch Decor ideas! It really doesn’t need to be expensive or big items to pack a scary punch!

Thanks for stopping in. Happy haunting!

xoxo-

Heather
