It’s no secret that I love to decorate for the holidays.
Love. Love. Love.
I feel like it is a gift for my family, and I get so much joy out of it too!
But as you know we recently moved, and as I set out to pack up our attic at the last house, I was completely overwhelmed with the amount of holiday decor we had in storage. Over the 7 years we had lived there, it had really accumulated. It honestly created so much stress for me and I just didn’t want to move it all with us!
So I purged a lot and I made a promise to myself to really think about storage when it comes to purchasing any holiday items moving forward. I have found that many of the best pieces for the holidays can be used year round or for multiple holidays. (Case in point- those lanterns and Ikea pillow covers below.) I also love using greenery and fresh items that don’t need to be stored! But the best things are ones that store really easy. Anyway, long story short- I absolutely love today’s project because it makes a huge impact with such little space… and effort!
I made our Halloween bats years ago and just put them in an envelope when I pack up the Halloween stuff. They cost me nothing because I already had the paper on hand too!
I have been using them for years now in all different areas of the house. This year, they are hanging out on the front porch.
Last year they were on our family room fireplace mantel.
And the year before that, they were on our living room mantel.
I’ve also put them on our front door- here you can see them when we were rocking our Superhero Halloween.
If you want to make a set all you need is a few sheets of black construction paper! This is the stencil that I used. To hang them up each year, I use painters tape which allows me to easily peel it off and reuse them.
* Tip: If you don’t have access to a printer- just put a white sheet of paper on your computer screen and lightly trace it. Then cut that out and use as a stencil!
Yay for simple to make holiday decor that doesn’t cost much AND stores so super easy! This is the triple threat y’all! And if you just don’t feel like getting crafty- Etsy has lots of options to buy a set as well.
