Big Boy Room Progress – Striped Wall!

in Lifestyle on 05/08/14

I heart striped walls. A lot.

They have been floating around in my brain for years.

I had never actually attempted one though, it just seemed so tedious.

But I did it! I finally did it! We have a striped wall!

I really liked the original navy accent wall that we had in the guest room. It helped to anchor the room and the neutral headboard, white nightstand, mirror and bedding offset the darkness of the wall.

When we moved the little guy into what was previously the guest room, I thought the existing gray walls and navy accent wall would be perfect for a toddlers room. Yay! Less painting for me!!

But as we started to transform the space from an adult guest room to a little guy’s room, the navy wall just wasn’t feeling right. It was actually kind of sucking the life out of me.  I considered painting it the same gray color as the other walls, but then the wheels got a turning.

The navy wall was THE perfect canvas for stripes and my striped-lovin’-heart knew it was just what the space needed to make the space feel young and bright.

Honestly, I was kind of hesitant to tackle a striped wall. Sure, I’d enjoyed the striped wall eye candy from afar, but I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off.

The measuring, the taping, the measuring, the measuring. It really made me nervous. I am not very patient when it comes to “scientific” projects. (ahem, I like to eyeball it) But this job needed some precision.  Ain’t nobody got time for crooked stripes and bleeding paint.

But, I just took my time and went for it. At first, I was going to do seven stripes, but went with five. I know my limits people. And, I am happy I did because I LOVE the way it turned out! I was able to knock this out in about 3 hours total throughout a Sunday. And using supplies I had on hand, this cost me exactly zero!

It’s AMAZING what two white pearly white stripes have done to the space! Kind of like the wall is smiling at me now! 🙂

And Mr. Big Stuff approves… although I think he really just likes photobombing more than anything!

We are slowly making progress in this room for the big boy.
