“Orange” you glad it’s summer? I am! 🙂 And to prove it, today I’m sharing a few areas of our home that have been given some fresh summer flavor.
Literally.
This year, our summer zest comes in the form of yellow, orange and lime green because I couldn’t resist adding splashes of citrus all throughout the house. So come on in and take a look.
It’s been awhile since I shared our living room and piece by piece it is finally coming together! (only took a YEAR) We have all of the furniture and the rug, and now are just waiting on the ottoman. I can’t wait to share the final room once it’s all in.
Sweet P is super into playing checkers right now so we are keeping this checkerboard out on the ottoman. It’s a good reminder to grab it and play when we have some free time. Oh and happy surprise- we have a big Gardenia bush in our back yard. I don’t think I even noticed it last year with the craze of the move or maybe it bloomed earlier in the summer last year before we moved in. Either way it smells divine and I just keep clipping away for blooms all over the house!
One of my favorite summer citrus details in this room is the DIY Citrus Crate Magazine Basket. While Georgia has been home for a very long time, I was born in south Florida and lived there until I was nine. Citrus was woven into my childhood. We had family just a few hours away with tangerine and lemon trees and we would pick them by the trunk load. We had a hand juicer and I remember having fresh orange juice and grapefruit juice for breakfast. We would have boxes and boxes of them out in the garage and my sister and I would eat tangerines until our tongues literally hurt.
I had a hard time selecting which vintage label to use for this easy DIY project because they are all so cool. But when I found this Plantation Brand one, I was sold. I was born in Plantation, Florida so this is one is just perfect for me!
We had another three year “stint” in Florida after the Big Sweet finished grad school down in Orlando and I really enjoyed reading through the Florida citrus history when I was looking at all of these citrus labels online. It even inspired me to pull out my old Orlando Junior League cookbook with tons of citrus recipes! Who knows, maybe I will even actually cook something. 🙂
The built-in bookshelves got some summer tweaking with the books blocked by red, white and blue. To see my tricks for decorating built-ins, I talked all about it here.
And on the other side of the shelves, I just mixed in a few citrus items for summer including another vintage citrus label.
Here you can see our new swivel chairs as well. I love that pop of coral in the room!
One thing I had my heart set on was a pair of sofas in this living room. Here is a view of the entire room with all of the seating. I love that we can comfortably seat at least 8 adults and it feels formal enough for grown ups but still very kid friendly.
And here is the view of the other side looking into the kitchen.
I shared this Citrus + Hydrangea flower arrangement details earlier this week. They are just so happy for summer and I love that the only items I needed to purchase were a fresh bag of limes and lemons.
The eat-in kitchen has had some tweaks as well since last time I shared it. We swapped out the light fixture for this new one and I love how easy-breazy-lemon-squeezy it all is. (sorry had to do it)
Alright, so let’s wrap up this tour by walking out the garage door through the mudroom. I couldn’t ignore this little engine of our home and added a little zesty refresh. Here I updated the existing frames with some citrus botanicals.
I will be back soon to share these free printables.
OK, now orange you glad it’s summer? 🙂
I have joined up with lots of fabulous bloggers also sharing their summer homes. Be sure to check out the next stop on the tour over at Jenna Kate At Home. A huge thanks to Krista for putting this great series together!

Really enjoyed your pops of color…neutral decorating seems to have taken over! Just 1 suggestion, have you tried the couches in a L, then the bigger armchairs in front of bookcases–just a thought! Keep up the beautiful work!
