By now you know I am a sucker for hunting down cute inexpensive Amazon finds and can’t-stop-won’t-stop with trendy Target style. But here’s the thing, I have also been adding a few investment “staple” pieces to my closet over the past several years for a mix of high and low. I love mixing high with low as a fun way to create outfits. Creating a high/low outfit is mixing designer and high quality investment pieces with budget friendly affordable items. And it perfectly describes my wardrobe!
My hope with sharing these pieces today is to inspire you to dig in your closet and adore the clothes you already own! But maybe there is a piece or two that you could invest in to help elevate your closet and add a “high-end” piece to any outfit. I know that feeling of “I have nothing to wear” and I think these staple pieces really help make that puzzle easier to solve.
So here are six closet staples currently in my closet- can you guess which are high and which are low? I have either linked exact items or found similar items below for your reference. I also thought it would be fun to share a splurge and save option for each item shown. Hope you find this hi/low closet staple idea helpful!
Just another nugget of inspiration for you as we work through our “22 Ways to Inspire Your 2022”!

Daily Looks || Six High/Low Closet Staples
1. CAMEL “COATIGAN”
I bought this camel “coatigan” over two years ago and it has become a great staple in my closet. I grab for it fall, winter and spring! BONUS- it’s currently on sale for 30% off!
- HIGH / Camel Collarless Sweater Blazer
This Coatigan Sweater Blazer option is the exact one I have from J. Crew, and is a great investment piece. I sized down to a small. - LOW/ Coatigan
If you are looking for something less expensive, this one from Amazon has lots of great reviews and is under $30.
2.NAVY STRIPED SWEATER
Every closet needs a striped go-to! I have been reaching for this sweater as a great striped layer lately. But I must admit that I am guilty of having quite a few striped options in my closet!
- HIGH/ Navy and White Striped Top
- LOW/ Striped Sweater
The sweater I am showing here is from Amazon- you can see it here.
3. SNEAKERS
I did it girls. I bought myself the Golden Goose. And I have ZERO REGRETS. I am a casual stay at home Mom. I have little need for fancy heels or sandals. But I do have a need for shoes to kick around in and it’s nice to have a pair that are elevated. For several years I just refused to give in to the whole Golden Goose train, but then I decided to stop fighting it! They really are the perfect shoe for just about any outfit.
- HIGH/ Golden Goose
I went for the basic navy white and taupe and got them from Nordstrom HERE. I think my pair is a great great neutral perfection starter pair! But if you are feeling glittery and cooler than me there are so many fun options to choose from. - LOW/ Star Sneakers
Love this funky pair- and under $75! If you really want a bargain pair- Walmart has these for $10 bucks!
4. BLUE JEANS
- HIGH/ Mother Demin
These are perfection for me, and I also have a similar pair in white. I love the way they fit and the frayed crop hem. - LOW/ LOFT Denim
These crop fit jeans are around $40! So cute.
5. JEWELRY
Recently I shared a fun bracelet stack trio that I assembled on Amazon.
- HIGH/ Yurman Bracelet
Wouldn’t mind if this fun Yurman mixed metal bracelet landed in my closet. - LOW/ Amazon Trio
I shared this Amazon bracelet trio last week- you can see all of the details here.
6. CROSSBODY PURSE
- HIGH/ Tory Burch Crossbody
I treated myself to this crossbody on a whim in 2020. Honestly I don’t remember why I even bought it, but I am SO glad I did! This comes on every trip with me and I love how it really elevates any outfit but is SO practical and usable. - LOW/ Quilted Crossbody
This Amazon quilted crossbody is a great neutral color and only $23. I think the Blush Light color would go with lots of outfits!
So what do you think? Are you a high/low shopper?
xoxo-
