Hey hey hey! How are we doing on day 4 of the”22 Ways To Inspire Your 2022″ series? I am pretty happy with the progress around here so far considering I am usually just waking up from a holiday fog right about now. I can’t wait to share today’s update because it is a doozy. I worked on my closet all weekend (in 10-15 minute increments per most of my projects) and I have been virtually high fiving myself all week every time I walk into my closet this week.
It just feels… GOOD.

Talk about a sense of accomplishment! My “profession” as a stay at home Mom doesn’t usually give me many rewards when it comes to tidying up because it is never ending – so when I do something like this for myself, it truly is a gift.
So today I am sharing three little tips to help get you kick started on your own closet purge. I promise you will thank yourself!

20 MINUTES & 20 THINGS
Sure, we would all like an entire week to devote to cleaning out our closet and tidying up the house. But the reality is-that is never going to happen! So my tip for getting started is to just set your phone timer for 20 minutes and tell yourself you need to find 20 items of clothing to get rid of.
But here is the thing- getting started is the hardest part and you will find that you really won’t be able to stop! This was how I motivated myself to get started over the weekend but once I realized how good it felt I kept going back for more until it was completely refreshed.

REMOVE ANY EXTRA CLUTTER
I don’t even want to admit what had collected in my closet over the busyness of packing for fall travel and the holidays. There were Amazon boxes, dry cleaner hangers, shoe boxes, shopping bags, stuffed animals from who knows where, some kids clothes…you get the idea. Just by doing this step alone, I was able to remove so much additional clutter and nonsense and now I can just… BREATHE.
I also purged some purses, sunhats and baseball hats that had seen better days and some jewelry that I no longer wear. All of this was stuff I had hanging on the walls so visually it all feels SO MUCH BETTER now! I also tucked some things into some pretty boxes and in general just tried to declutter as much as I could.

TAKE NOTES
Yes, jot down your thoughts as you work through your closet! Here is what I mean:
If you end up purging a cream sweater because it was too pilled or a white tee because it was stained but you wore it all the time, take a note to be on the lookout for a replacement. I came out of this purge with a few pieces I know I need. (and also took note that I IN FACT, DO NOT NEED ANY MORE CREAM SWEATERS!!)Another way I took notes was any organizational items I need. I already have quite a few velvet hangers, but I’d like to go ahead and upgrade the rest of them this year. (I found a 100 pack on Amazon for $40!) So I made a wish list of some organizational things I would like to add in here to help keep things looking better and more organized.
Lastly, I pulled out a few things that I love but have never worn because I don’t know what to wear with the piece. So I took note of these things and am planning to intentionally put together an outfit in the next few weeks. And if I can’t figure it out, I will donate it because it really doesn’t do me any good just hanging in here.
