Hello my friends and welcome to the first Front Porch Coffee Talk of 2020! I hope the first half of January has treated you well. As with most Januaries it has been a very slow start around here. Sick kids, Christmas break, and general holiday “hangover” are to blame. But little by little we are ticking away on getting the house back together after the December craze and I finally got the last of the holiday decor stored away.
So with that, let’s grab a cup of coffee and catch up on the porch, it’s been too long!

SAVING CHRISTMAS CARDS
Are you “Team Save” or “Team Purge” when it comes to Christmas cards? Ever since the boys were born, I have been saving all of the cards we receive in the mail. It is fun to look back and see how small all of their friends were and we enjoy flipping through them. I haven’t organized ours yet from this year, but here you can see how I did it last year here.
GRANDMILLENNIAL- A New Style Trend
Have you heard of the term “Grandmillennial” yet? It has popped up for me a couple times and I just love it every time I hear it. I am neither a Grandma nor a Millennial, however I love the concept that these two words combined makes. Here is a great article about it, but the bottom line is that the 20’s and 30 somethings are bringing back granny style in a cool and chic way. It’s warm and cozy and definitely a departure from the sterile and farmhouse vibe. I’d like to think that my Thanksgiving table had this vibe when I used the vintage floral china mixed with modern patterns. One trend prediction I found interesting about this? Pleated lampshades.
FAVORITE BOOK OF 2019?
I am working on updating my reading wish list and would love to know your recent favorite reads. I would say my favorite book of 2019 was probably the same as many of yours- Where the Crawdad Sings. Right now I have The Paris Wife on my nightstand but haven’t had the chance to pick it up.
TRUTH
This just made me laugh. Per usual, it’s been a slooooow start to the new year. I’ve had sick kids home from school already several times in January. The grand total of days I’ve had both of them in school the past 30 days is 5! Off to wrap the birthday presents for this weekend’s parties … 🙂
I bought some elderberry gummies and doing vit c but I would love your tips for keeping your family healthy!
MY CURRENT PODCAST
Due to the aforementioned slow start to the year, I haven’t had a lot of alone time. Which means I’ve had very little time for walks and podcast time. However, based on my sisters recommendation I started a new one called Dolly Parton’s America. I’m on the third episode. If you like Dolly, are interested in music or the history of country music – this podcast tells Dolly’s story and is worth the listen.
INSTAGRAM PLUG
Last but not least, I recently hit 19,000 followers on Instagram and have my eyes on getting to 20,000 in 2020! I try not to look at the numbers too much over on Instagram but it’s always fun to hit new milestones and this one was a long time coming. So if you aren’t already following me I would really appreciate it- just click here =====> SOUTHERNHEATHER
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. The boys have Monday off so we are looking forward to a couple low key days, and hopefully everyone is back to being their healthy and happy selves again soon!
xoxo-

I was looking at the picture of your Thanksgiving table with the vintage flora china. It looks exactly like the china my Grandmother had when I was a kid a long time ago. I think I have a piece or two of it. I love the table you set. So pretty.
I really enjoy your blog and look forward to reading it. Blessing to you and your family for 2020. Kathie

I think you will love the book, “Indigo Girl”. Historical fiction.
Hopefully over the long weekend, all those germs can be washed away. Germs love warm moist environments, so with the expected cold weather, that will kill them off too!
