Guest Room Makeover || The Vision - Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

I am chomping at the bit to get started on tackling my Guest Room and EnSuite Bathroom as part of the One Room Challenge this spring. If you missed last week’s post, the One Room Challenge is where I work on a room in my house for 8 weeks (like a crazy person!) with a final reveal on May 26th. This spring I am giving our guest room a fun and fresh makeover!

Our guest room has some great bones, but it needs some serious zhushing up. If you’ve been around here long, then you know we absolutely love to travel. So, why not make this room a luxurious destination? The vision for my room is to make it feel like a Southern Boutique Hotel when my guests arrive. So I will be using statement wallpaper, luxurious linens, hanging beautiful drapes and adding new artwork. The EnSuite bathroom will join the update with fresh art and all the details you would find in a luxury hotel. Our guest room is not very big so it’s going to take some creative thinking to add style without making it feel overwhelming.

When guests arrive, I want them to feel like they are walking into a memorable and inspiring boutique hotel room that you might find in Charleston or Savannah. If you aren’t familiar with the term “boutique hotel” – basically it’s a smaller, more intimate hotel, and usually features a strong focus on design.

So, without further ado- let’s take a look our very own boutique hotel room!

GUEST ROOM || THE VISION

This vision board is definitely a fun starting point to help me get the room going. Some of it is actual items I already own that I plan to use or repurpose. Some of it is pieces I plan to purchase for the room. The art is a starting point- I would love to feature some local artists since that is something I could see a boutique hotel doing. However, that fabulous face painting is just in for inspiration as that actual piece alone would be more than my entire budget for this room would allow.

I want our guest room to feel peaceful and calm but also inspiring! I plan to use lots of neutrals such as black, white, gray and taupe- with some more playful pops of colors. With “Maycember” coming quick (is there a nickname for April too, because wow thing are BUSY!) I am really trying to get a jump start on getting this room updated. This week I hope to tackle that bold zebra peel n stick wallpaper so hopefully I will have an update on that for you next week.
