Home Sweet Home || Summer Home Tour 2021

in HOME on 06/07/21

Hello hello! Happy SUMMMAHHHHH! Today I am sharing our summer home. Honestly, I haven’t done much in terms of intentionally adding summer touches, but it still seems to happen organically as the seasons and temperatures change and I love sharing the little details with you every season. Today I am also joining other bloggers sharing their summer homes and I hope you find lots of inspiration for your own home.  I’m honored to have teamed up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life  along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our spring homes with you this week. If you are coming over from Julia at Cuckoo4Design– WELCOME! Julia and I met at a Stylemaker event back in NYC a few years ago and I love her boho style. This is my EIGHTH tour with this fun group and if you’ve been around here long you know I always “greet” you at the door to kick things off so here is this summer’s look!

WELCOME: Home Sweet Home – Our Summer Home Tour

  • If you are new here at Southern State of Mind- WELCOME! I’m Heather, the crazy-crafting-iced-coffee-drinking-mom behind the blog. My husband and I live in Atlanta with our two boys – ages 6 and 9. I have been blogging for around 6 years, ever since I was fortunate to stay home with my youngest.
  • This blog brings me so much joy and I am so glad you are joining me today to have a look around! One way to catch up with me is to read my Front Porch Coffee Talks where I share what’s on my mind on Friday mornings just like friends chatting over coffee.
  • Last but not least, I share my day to day over on Instagram @ SOUTHERNHEATHER and I would absolutely love to see you over there!

So with that, grab your iced coffee or depending on the time of day a spicy margarita with salt and let’s take a look around at our summer home sweet home!

NOOKS AND CRANNIES: Home Sweet Home – Our Summer Home Tour

Over the past few months I have been working on the “nooks and crannies” throughout the house so let’s start with that!  And by nooks and crannies I mean the hallways, the bar and the little “moments” throughout the bottom floor. So for this tour I thought it would be fun to see how those have come together lately.

First up, here is a hallway off the kitchen leading to the mudroom. I took my framed birds out of the dining room and put them in there and I love the way it looks now!

The bar also got a fun new piece of art. I found this huge abstract painted canvas for $5 from the Goodwill and figured it would find a spot somewhere. Well what do you know it landed right here in the bar hallway and I like it’s funky vibe.

Last but not least is this little nook off the living room. Another framed bird from the old bird gallery wall and a few summer touches give this space an entire new look.

LIVING ROOM : Home Sweet Home – Our Summer Home Tour

Alright now let’s stroll through the living room. The main updates in here are the newly styled bookshelves. In the spring it was all about the blue and white… and because I can’t-stop-won’t-stop tweaking I took EVERYTHING off and gave both shelves a new look for summer.

That trio of side tables and both x-ottoman benches flanking the bookshelves are new Homegoods finds. I went it to find a new pair of pillows for the front porch and didn’t even grab a cart! Next thing I knew I needed two carts to check out. Isn’t that the way it always works?

KITCHEN: Home Sweet Home – Our Summer Home Tour

The next stop on our tour is the heart of our home- the kitchen.  But you know what? My kids are home and since my kitchen is the pulse I only snapped one picture in here. But let’s just all look at the pretty hydrangeas from the yard, shall we? This is what I call giving myself grace!  Do you really think I could wash and blow dry my hair AND clean my kitchen all in one day? 🙂

DINING ROOM : Home Sweet Home – Our Summer Home Tour

So now let’s all take a peek at the dining room. This space was really struggling up until about a month ago when I gave the entire room a post quarantine glow up. Over the past year of 2020 it had become a drop spot for clutter piles. I had also purchased a few things as DIY projects but had not bothered to actually do anything with them. I was so glad the creative bug hit me and I gave this space a refreshed look. I just love it’s cool factor now!

Alright, well I’m off to hang with the boys. Pretty sure I heard them yelling Mooooommmmmmmm 97 times will I was writing this!  I enjoyed showing you around and sharing these summer touches with you. Maybe today will be the day the kitchen gets clean…

Now please be sure to check out my blogging bestie Rachael at This is Our Bliss. While I have never physically been to her house, I talk on the phone with her almost every day so I feel like I am always there in spirit. 🙂

    Dear Heather,
I must be your (much much older) Yankee sister, or maybe auntie! I suspected that we might be related when I came across your blog that showed your love of all things blue and white. We even have the same abstract art print – yours hangs over the credenza between the two lamps in your living room and mine on a wall in my living room. Homegoods? I searched long and hard for one that fit the bill and was thrilled to find two harmonizing prints at a garage sale for $10. each! But today, your “birds-eye view” of that dish that holds all the heart shaped rocks that you have collected? That just sealed the deal as I have a similar collection as well! Lovely tour, lovely blog and look forward to more posts! Happy summer!

Ha! YES I got that art from Homegoods- tried to find it online since so many ask about it but I guess we are the only two with it, ha. And YAY for heart rock collection- it is just such a fun thing to always be looking for and I truly love each one we have found. Thank you so much for your fun comment and for checking out my summer home tour! Your Southern Sister- Heather
