Welcome to our 2020 summer home tour! Mother nature gave us a break with a lovely cool spring, but the grace has come to an end. The hot and humid summer days are here, and we are counting down the days until we can hit the beach! With summer arriving, it’s time for another seasonal home tour- this time she’s ready for summer. I’m thrilled to have teamed up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our summer homes with you this week. If you are coming from Christy at Our Southern Home– so glad you are here. These home tours are always good for my soul because it forces me to get my house in order. I assure you that most days it looks nothing like this… (and neither do I for that matter)
Blue Dress (under $30!)| Raffia Earrings
If you are new here at Southern State of Mind- WELCOME! I’m Heather, the crazy-crafting-iced-coffee-drinking-mom behind the blog. My husband and I live in Atlanta with our two boys – ages 5 and 8. I have been blogging for around five years, since I was fortunate to stay home with my youngest.
This blog brings me so much joy and I am so glad you are joining me today to have a look around! One way to get caught up with me lately is to read my Front Porch Coffee Talks where I share what’s on my mind like friends chatting over coffee.
So now that we know each other, let’s have a look around!
SUMMER HOME TOUR- FRONT PORCH
Our front porch is the sidekick to this blog as I do the weekly Front Porch Coffee Talks and it’s where you could pretty much find me during the quarantine. To see more details on this space- you can get the full tour here: Staying Home On Our Front Porch

SUMMER HOME TOUR- FOYER
Alright, well now that you’ve had a stop on the front porch, come on in! Our front door is always open and you can usually find lots of bikes and scooters in our driveway. It’s usually a revolving door of neighborhood kids!
I did make a little change to the foyer with some DIY art – inspired by Anthroplogie art that I have always liked. Mine was free using a frame I had in storage from when we downsized my mother in law last summer. Yay for a finally tackling a few projects that were on my list during the pandemic. I also brought this vintage wicker lamp in here for summer.
SUMMER HOME TOUR- FAMILY ROOM
Come on into the family room! Where it’s usually filled with piles of books, toys, socks, shoes, and shirts. Yes- my boys pretty much refuse to wear shoes and shirts at this point so they end up scattered EVERYWHERE! So let’s just soak this clean room in for a minute, shall we?

It wouldn’t be a tour without a look in the kitchen so let’s take a look. Again- better get a glimpse before the mess happens again. I kept it super simple with this faux orchid. It isn’t summer unless you have some Topo Chico on hand. I recently shared my current favorite cocktail- see the Ranch Water recipe here.
I shared a great tip on cushion covers this spring as well. This outdoor sofa has been with us for over 10 years and the cushion had seen better days. So I found an option on Amazon and it has worked great! You can read the full post here.
I recently got super organized and created a new category called PORCH LIFE that catalogs all of my outdoor room posts.
Well, that does it for today. I really enjoyed showing you around our home this summer. I hope you are inspired to do some summer updates of your own! I tried to share sources where I could, but please let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Summer friends! If you are interested in receiving updates every time I post, please > SUBSCRIBE HERE <
Be sure to head over to The Woodgrain Cottage where Shayna is sharing her summer home.
