Hello hello! How is everyone holding up? We are hunkering down and just taking everything day by day (sometimes hour by hour!) around here. The days are going slow but I know that this too shall pass and I am just focusing on staying busy with the boys. Today I am joining other bloggers that are sharing our spring homes. I am at a loss for words as I write this, because a spring home tour definitely feels a bit frivolous at this point. However, this tour has been scheduled for months and honestly, I think we all are looking for small moments to escape and enjoy some sweet and simple content to help you just “breathe”. So I hope you can find a few moments to enjoy today’s spring home tour. I’m honored to have teamed up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our spring homes with you this week. If you are coming over from Deb at Seeking Lavender Lane – Welcome! Deb has done an amazing job completely transforming her home and I can’t wait to see how she has decorated it for spring.

The expression “Home Sweet Home” has never felt more genuine or heartfelt to me than now so I figured that would be my theme for today. While it is obvious I always love my home, and enjoy other people’s decor and homes- I am just so grateful for this haven to feel safe in a world that is so unknown right now!

I know we are all about giving ourselves and others grace – so I don’t want you to feel bad if your house looks nothing like this right now. I can assure you, mine does not either. Fortunately, I did get some spring pep in my step last week and pulled a few things together before the kids were home on Friday. No one expected that our lives would be halted and I am working to just keep the floors swept of the Lucky Charms and the stray socks picked up at this point.
If you are new here at Southern State of Mind- WELCOME! I’m Heather, the crazy-crafting-iced-coffee-drinking-mom behind the blog. My husband and I live in Atlanta with our two boys – ages 5 and 8. I have been blogging for around five years, ever since I was fortunate to stay home with my youngest.
This blog brings me so much joy and I am so glad you are joining me today to have a look around! One way to catch up with me is to read my Front Porch Coffee Talks where I share what’s on my mind like friends chatting over coffee.
So with that, let’s take as spring stroll through our home sweet home!
FRONT PORCH : Home Sweet Home – Our Spring Home Tour
As I mentioned, I post a Front Porch Coffee Talk series every week so our front porch has become somewhat of a sidekick here on the blog. For the spring, I kept it very simple and grabbed a fun new striped outdoor rug. It makes a statement all on it’s own and I just love it out here! The pillows were pulled out from my stash as was the faux boxwood. I love having things that can work in many places and in many seasons and this faux topiary is one of those. The weather has been a blessing this week as we have had some warm afternoons to escape outside. And this porch is definitely a landing spot for us.
For the front entrance, the planters got new fresh ferns and I made a wreath using items I had around the house. I was tempted to create pretty spring planters with flowers, but now I am SO glad I kept it simple and I hope I can keep these ferns alive all summer.
For the wreath, I decided to make my own using this beautiful Williams-Sonoma wreath as inspiration. To make it, I just I grabbed a grapevine wreath from my stash and then wrapped a eucalyptus garland around it. This garland was used at Christmas as well, so definitely a versatile item to keep around. Then I hot glued some faux lemon and limes onto the wreath.
To finish it off, I grabbed a few white faux flowers and tucked them into the wreath. I am pretty happy with how cheerful it is and that it cost me nothing because I was able to use things I already had around the house.
Well, now that we have seen the porch- come on in! I did some rotating and pulled the bird art from the dining room, and I painted the stool that has floated all over the house a light french blue to give it an update for spring. That pillow is a DIY- I just hand painted an old pillow using the coveted Les Touches fabric as inspiration.
KITCHEN: Home Sweet Home – Our Spring Home Tour
The next stop on our tour is the heart of our home- the kitchen. Even among the chaos and mess right now, I always strive to keep the kitchen island cleared of clutter. Since we have an open floor plan, it makes me feel so much better when the counter is clear!
The one update I made in here for spring are adding a vase of the Faux Lemon Branches. I found these at Target and absolutely love them in here. What a cheerful addition for spring! I shopped around and found these to be an affordable option- and I think they look adorable! Honestly- they didn’t cost much more than a fresh bouquet of flowers and they will last forever.
OK- let’s take a wider view of the kitchen. Are you swooning yet? Another touch of spring addition is this awesome art from a local artist and my friend Katherine Wirth Art. It is just perfection right here! It is so cheerful and a bright spot in the house. Katherine recently started sharing her art with the world, if you are looking for a fun new piece or something commissioned- she is wonderful. Be sure to check out her Instagram here- @KATHERINEWIRTHART.
The kitchen table got a small dose of spring as well! I used the same Faux Lemon Branches and created some fun spring arrangements with my Double Happiness Ginger Jars.
LIVING ROOM : Home Sweet Home – Our Spring Home Tour
So let’s meander into the living room. This space just got a few little spring touches. Here you can see how this space connects to the kitchen.
The flower vase was a DIY from a few weeks back and I still absolutely love it with some (free) magnolia clippings. To see the tutorial for the Paint Dipped Colorblock Vase- click here.
The bookshelves got a little update with my DIY landscape art- I am just really drawn to these two colors right now so this was a fun and simple project to give the built ins something fresh for spring.
DINING ROOM : Home Sweet Home – Our Spring Home Tour
Well, this room currently looks NOTHING like this as it has become our home school headquarters. Honestly, I feel bad even posting these pictures because I don’t want other moms to feel bad if their dining room looks NOTHING like this right now either! I can assure you that I snapped these pictures last week before we all became home school parents.
But I still wanted to include them because as you can see, the bird wall is gone. Yes- the bird wall that I put up two years ago during the One Room Challenge is officially retired and this fun art is now a temporary filler. This is an old canvas that I have had, and it has been painted at least 4 times. This go-round I just added lots of blues and greens for a serene look. I do plan to work in this room again when life returns to normal…
Well, that does it for today. I enjoyed showing you around and sharing these spring touches with you. I hope you are inspired to do some spring sprucing of your own- probably just using things from your own stash at this point. It’s such a great time to get creative and use what you have! And I am sending positive vibes and prayers your way. We can do this!
Now please be sure to check out Yvonne over at Stone Gable Blog. Her pictures are always stunning and I look forward to “visiting” her home today.
