Hey friends and happy Tuesday! It’s definitely happy over here because we get to share our fun new back porch retreat today – and just in time for summah. (Oh don’t mind my southern accent today, we spent this past weekend in Chawlestawn and instead of feeling depressed that our trip is over I have just decided to talk like a Charlestonian. #ikid #kindof)
It’s been really fun to partner with At Home and HGTV Spring House to give our back porch a new look this spring. I was definitely filled with inspiration when I visited At Home and the HGTV Spring House online. I am really happy with the way the “Southern Outdoor Retreat” turned out! With an allocated budget of $500 toward making over the back porch, I think it is safe to say that the mission is accomplished. That amount of money had to go a long way- cushions, rug, umbrella and accessories! I found everything I needed (and then some.) What started as as inspiration board was easily executed with a trip to At Home.
Let’s head outside, shall we? Ahhhh, yes don’t-mind-if-I-do.

Have a seat right there on those comfy cushions and pillows.
But don’t miss the rug. I fell hard for this one when I was walking around At Home, and they were nice enough to let me grab it from the display.
Since we don’t have a roof (oh, I can only dream) a big umbrella is a must. At Home had the biggest selection I have ever seen!
I love the extra area the rug provides for the kiddos to lounge and play.
For some fresh greens I clipped some honeysuckle, rosemary and lemon mint from the yard. Looks pretty and smells good!
I had been looking for a sideboard for the back porch for years. I was thrilled to find this from At Home. It will be great to hold food and drinks when grilling out.
Had to grab this red lantern from At Home to add to my growing collection.
Moving to the other side of the porch. I scooped up some new linens for the outdoor dining table.
And because everyone loves a good makeover story, I will remind you what we started with before my trip to At Home.

I am calling this back porch our “Outdoor Southern Retreat”. We absolutely love to travel and have date nights. But since we have two little ones, we are often home enjoying family time. This back porch is our “retreat” and I know we will be enjoying it well into fall.
Have you given your porch an update yet this year? I’d love to hear about it!

Love your deck area. How did you set up your curtain? Looks like something that would work for mine, just need some instructions. Please help.

Thanks! Oh man oh man… I have been meaning to do a post on this. I basically got 2×2’s from home depot… spray painted them to somewhat match my porch stain and screwed them into the deck railing. Then I got some rings that screwed into the 2×2’s and stuck electrical conduit through the rings as the curtain rods. I am motivated to write a post now so hopefully will post it next week with pictures!
