I ❤️ Atlanta || Our Buckhead Atlanta Staycation at The Whitley

in I HEART ATLANTA, travel on 02/20/20

Sure, we can always do fun things around our own cities, but the second we get back in our own home we immediately think of the laundry that needs to get done and the dishwasher that needs unloading. That’s why I was thrilled to plan a fun Buckhead Atlanta Staycation for my family this past weekend at the newly remodeled The Whitley Hotel.  You know I am ALWAYS up for a family adventure and a February three-day weekend was the perfect chance to “get away”!

Even though we were only a few miles from our house, it still felt like a get-away and I immediately felt more relaxed the moment we entered the hotel lobby.

FOUR THINGS TO ENJOY ON AN ATLANTA STAYCATION AT THE WHITLEY HOTEL

  1. RELAX IN ROOM
Upon arriving at the hotel on Saturday afternoon, I was promptly greeted with a glass of champagne. Don’t-mind-if-I-do! The fam was excited to check out our room so we got ourselves settled in and took some time to just relax and unwind. Check out the view from our room!  The Whitley Hotel is perfectly located in Buckhead- and if you are familiar with the area- it makes a triangle from Lenox Mall and Phipps Mall.  Here you can see Lenox Mall along with the Atlanta skyline from our room.  We had already had a busy Saturday of sports around town so we took a little while to just decompress in our room before heading out for our evening plans. It truly is amazing what happens when you get out of your own house!
     2. EXPLORE PHIPPS MALL
There is just something SO nice about parking your car for the night and being able to walk to your destination, isn’t there? Once everyone was feeling relaxed, we walked across the street to Phipps Mall for our outing. This mall is right across the street and a very easy walk to from The Whitley. After providing several activity options to the kids, we decided to hit up Legoland Discovery Center and then top it off with a trip to Johnny Rockets for dinner and milkshakes.

    Phipps Mall Kid-Friendly Activities
    1. Legoland Discovery Center
    2. Johnny Rockets
    3. AMC Movie Theater
    4. Build-a-Bear Workshop
      3. INDOOR HEATED POOL
Imagine a rainy cold three day weekend in February. Now imagine it at a hotel with an INDOOR HEATED POOL. This was a highlight of the weekend and such a comfortable spot to hang out. I chatted with several other families who were staying at the hotel and some were from around Atlanta and a couple were from Tennessee – turns out they had the same idea as us and wanted to check out a few Atlanta attractions and enjoy the  heated pool.

      4. ENJOY AN ATLANTA DAY OUTING
Although we could have stayed in the indoor pool all day, we were excited to check out a new-to-us Atlanta outing. There are so many great options within 10-15 minutes from the hotel, but I knew just the one for my crew. We were heading to the College Football Hall of Fame- and the boys dressed accordingly! However, little did we know there was a massive Cheer competition (think 50,000 people) going on right by the College Football Hall of Fame… and it was raining and the parking and traffic was intense, so we just went home. Now we have something to look forward to!Kid Friendly Day Outing Ideas

      • College Football Hall of Fame
      • Georgia Aquarium
      • Atlanta History Center
      • World of Coke
      • Skyview Atlanta
      • Center for Puppetry Arts
      • Children’s Museum of Atlanta
      • The Varsity

WHERE WE STAYED- THE WHITLEY HOTEL

For anyone familiar with the Buckhead area, The Whitley is the old Ritz Carlton Buckhead that recently got a $20-million renovation, and offers great skyline views and loads of luxury. The hotel is perfectly located on Peachtree and adjacent to both Lenox Mall and Phipps Mall. We experienced wonderful service during our stay and enjoyed all the amenities the hotel has to offer.

Here are some highlights of The Whitley Hotel:

  • a renovation of all 507 rooms (including 56 spacious suites)
  • a remodeled reception and lobby area that reflects a traditional Southern front porch
  • the addition of a new 5,000-square-foot Legacy Ballroom
  • a renovation of The Spa including the addition of a Himalayan salt room
  • the reconceived Trade Root Restaurant and Lounge

And here are some snapshots of the space!

A big thanks again to The Whitley Hotel for the southern hospitality. We loved the chance to be tourists in our own city and enjoy some intentional family time without the distractions of home!

xoxo-

Heather

Wow! The Hotel is gorgeous! Your staycation looked like a good time. My son was driving home from Southwest GA on Sunday and stopped in Atlanta for the Aquarium. He said it was awesome!
