{Before and After} Big Splash for a Pint-Sized Bath

in Lifestyle on 03/27/13

Thanks for following along the past couple weeks
as we gave this little bath a big splash:
Click here to see how we  Dreamt Up Some Inspiration for this Damsel in Distress
Click here to see where we  Discussed 3 Ways To Add Storage to a Small Bath
As a reminder on where we started- here was the Damsel in Distress…

BEFORE!

AFTER!

To recap some of the highlights of this journey:

New Shelf Ledge
I love that we were able to add storage and function to this tiny space by replacing the ugly old toothbrush and soap dish with a more functional shelf ledge.
We even put a couple towel hooks on it so baby boy can hang his towel when he gets older.
Gotta teach ’em early, right?

Extra benefit? I get to style it with a starfish and keep a lamp on for guests. Score. 🙂

New Vanity
Replaced oversized vanity with a more petite version to add an extra 12 inches to this tiny space.

Extra benefit? A little extra breathing room during our nightly bath…
and space for a stepstool for teeth brushing.

Ladder Towel Rack
Found a random ladder thingie at the Goodwill and converted it to a towel rack.
Painted it a dark brown to match the new vanity.
Is there anything a can of spray paint can’t fix?
Extra benefit? Guest towel storage and visual height for the small space.

Artwork & Accessories
Weathered Orange Oar
Mom found this at an antique mart for $10 in Florida

Go Jump In the Lake Sign
Found this gem at Scott’s antique mart.
I love this company’s story and love this sign even more!

Alligator Artwork
OK, this is just plain awesome, if-i-do-say-so-myself.
Mom found this Alligators’ Parade Two Step framed sheet music from 1907…for $3. Don’t hate.
Could there be anything more fun than Alligators dancing the two step?
Growing up in Florida, my family has a long list of gator stories so this one really hits home for me.

West Elm Shower Curtain:
This was the inspiration for the entire room. I love this shower curtain from West Elm. It is the PERFECT touch of nautical, without being over the top!

Framed Map of Charleston
I found these four frames for $2 each at (you guessed it) the Goodwill.
To keep the art more adult, framed a map of Charleston Harbor that I found online.
Other Sources
Paint- Rockport Gray Benjamin Moore (LOVE THIS PAINT COLOR!!!!!!!)
Navy & White Striped Shower Curtain- West Elm
Coral Towel- Target purchase several months ago
Lantern Lamp- shopped the house and snagged this from the sunroom
Parker Towel- gift from Pottery Barn Kids
Guest Napkins- Found these at Michael’s for $1 a pack last summer
Thanks for checking out the before and after of this little bathroom!

So beautiful! I need more details on how you did that ledge! And I'm totally stealing that paint color. I think the charleston maps and ladder towel rack are my favorite details!

Thanks! I love the rockport gray paint! We hired a handyman to install the shelf. He just knocked off the soapdish, toothbrush holder and towel rack and used the wood to cover where they were tiled. The supplies were pretty inexpensive. Get that handy hubby of yours to whip one up! 😉

Your room is so tiny and looks so big with the big bold colors and some design changes, so much more useful, especially the shelf…love the lamp on the shelf too…

Wow! I love it! I'm so jealous of your Goodwill finds! I don't live anywhere near gators or Charleston, but I know some cool art when I see it lol. I love the shelf over the sink too. Would never have thought to do that but it's very practical and adds to the room so much. Pinning!!

What an amazing makeover!! By the looks of the electrical plug in the before, it looks like your bathroom tried to burn itself down ha ha. But I think your bathroom must be so in love with itself now…the after is REALLY incredible!! I'm brainstorming how I can add a shelf to one of my bathrooms. Now to pin it 🙂

I love this bathroom. Great job. I love telling people to 'go jump in the lake'. 🙂 The shelf adds great showcasing space, while being functional at the same time.

Just lovely! How did you anchor the shelving into the tile wall? We have similar tile and I have been wanting to do a similar shelf. Love the ladder… What a great find! 🙂

Thanks so much! We used tile screws to mount into the wall and then just painted them white to blend into the shelf. There may be a prettier way, but it seems to work. Would love to see your finished product if you do this!

Where on Earth did you find that vanity sink cabinet?!? My bathroom is set up JUST like this one…I've never seen one like mine done so nicely. I'm having a hard time finding a sink that doesn't stick out too far. I just can't have it more than 17" deep. Any information will be very helpful! Thank you and GREAT job on this bathroom!
