Southern State of Mind Blog by Heather

{Five Minute Friday} A Clear Jug Vase and Tall Stems

in create, Decor, Easy DIY on 10/14/16

Happy Friday friends! And HAPPY WEEKEND! The Big Sweet and are on our way to Charleston for a fun 40th birthday weekend with some friends. No, I am not quite 40 yet, but I guess I am just preparing myself since so many of my loved ones were apparently born in 1976!

Today I am back with another Five Minute Friday post. The idea behind these posts is that you think to yourself- “HEY SELF, I CAN DO THAT.” (in five minutes give or take a few) And then you do it! (because it takes five minutes!)

If you follow blogs or look through any catalogs, you have definitely seen it:

The Clear Jug Vase + Tall Stems

So pretty for any season.

And so simple, right?

So why haven’t you tried it?

No worries my friends… I hadn’t either!

I have lots of vases but never had the jug style (my very scientific term for a vase with a narrow lip), so I FINALLY ordered myself one I found from H&M– it was on sale for $12.99.

Then, I went and picked some weeds.

Pretty fab, huh? 🙂

I’ve had fun moving this vase around the house this fall. It’s kind of perfect anywhere.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. This is meant to be a statement piece. The stems should be long and stand tall.
  2. Use all of the same kind of stem to really make a big statement.
  3. The vase should have a a more narrow lip to help keep the stems together. (hence the very scientific “jug” term I am using)
  4. Less is more when it comes to any additional decor around it. Let it make it’s statement in peace!

Below I have gathered more inspiration for you.

Sarah from Life on Virginia Street has mastered the whole clear jug + branch perfectly.

Love the simplicity of this look from Erin at Sunny Side Up

And you better believe as soon as our Gingko tree turns yellow I will be snipping some branches.

Love this one from my friend Lauren at Bless’er House.

There are lots of options of these vases with many different price points. Here are a few for inspiration:

Of course, if you don’t want to spend alot, you could always get an apple cider jug and repurpose it as jug vase. #lightbulbmoment

Now, I can’t help you source the branch, but the nice part is that it is free from your yard. But if you want to have something more permanent, I do think that a tall cotton boll stem is a great look for fall too.

Alright, have I motivated you to take a walk outside and snip some of those beautiful autumn colors?

Happy weekend!

xoxo-

Heather

Five minute Friday? This is right up my alley! Thanks to this post, I remember I have a jug style vase somewhere in this house that I can use AND that I should take a look at H & M for style deals from time to time!
