2020 Early Fall Home Tour

in Fall, HOME, Seasonal Home Tours on 09/13/20

Hi friends! Thanks for stopping by for today’s Early Fall Home Tour. While the temperatures here in Atlanta did get the note that it was September and gave us a little relief, I am looking forward to true sweater weather and those upcoming cooler days. I’m thrilled to have teamed up with Marty from A Stroll Thru Life  along with 29 other talented bloggers to share our fall homes with you this week. If you are coming from Ashley at Modern Glam– so glad you are here. These home tours are always good for my soul because it forces me to get my house in order. Which after being home for six months this summer with my crew proved to be more challenging than I expected!

If you are new here at Southern State of Mind- WELCOME! I’m Heather, the crazy-crafting-iced-coffee-drinking-mom behind the blog. My husband and I live in Atlanta with our two boys – ages 6 and 9. I have been blogging for around six years, ever since I was fortunate to stay home with my youngest.  This blog brings me so much joy and I am so glad you are joining me today to have a look around! One way to get caught up with me lately is to read my Front Porch Coffee Talks where I share what’s on my mind like friends chatting over coffee.

EARLY FALL TOUR  || THE FRONT PORCH

The front porch is one of our favorite spots in the house and it always seems to be the first spot I spruce up each season.  Last year I gave this pair of old planters a fresh coat of spray paint with Rustoleum Rustic Mist. Such a great fun dark copper color for fall, and I love the way it complements our front door.   For the plants, I grabbed some Black Eyed Susan’s and purplish red coleus and an orange mum. I love the mix of rich colors and you may even notice that I placed fun wire pumpkins among the plants. Love that little detail. I plan to plant those Black Eyed Susan’s in the ground when I am done with the planters which is great to be able to enjoy them forever!  The porch got a few new pillows and plants and I love the subtle touches of fall.

EARLY FALL TOUR  || THE KITCHEN

Alright so let’s move on into the kitchen. I kept the counters super simple and just did a few Ginger Jars with Trader Joe’s Sunflowers.  The handwritten recipes that I added above the stove are still there and I still love them! I added six of these handwritten recipes on my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY if you are interested in hanging framed handwritten recipes in your own kitchen this fall. This and many more free printables are available to Southern State of Mind subscribers.

EARLY FALL TOUR  || THE LIVING ROOM

Next let’s move onto the living room. This space got a quick update with antlers and sunflowers…  And the Greek Key pillows that I made last year are still holding on strong.  Last year I made these my  ordering four of these velvet pillows (a two pack for only $12.99!) and Greek key trim (using my 40% off coupon). Would you believe I just glued it on with Liquid Stitch? A year later they are still holding up great and the perfect little detail in this room.  The bookshelves got a fall update. I am always sad when it’s time to take the summer driftwood and oysters down, but stacking some pumpkins and some new bird art helps.  This fun DIY lamp is still one of my fave new things in this room. You can see how I made this DIY Hob Knob Lamp here.  The other Designer Inspired Knock-off is also holding strong in our small dining area. These pillows were another labor of love and you can read all about them here.  Well, that does it for today. I really enjoyed showing you around and sharing these fall touches with you. I hope you are inspired to do some fall “house tweaking” of your own! I would love to see you over on my Instagram where I share daily updates- you can follow along here @SOUTHERNHEATHER.
